Just Dance!

It’s Wednesday, the middle of the week and it has just been crawling by. Work is keeping me busy, getting all the studio spaces ready for next year, placing orders and tying up any loose ends. But, I feel that I should be farther in the week than just Wednesday. I’m ready. I’m ready for my summer to begin. I’m ready for that sweet taste of freedom.

I came across this video while reading the news this morning before I left to catch the train. It made me smile. It makes you just want to DANCE! And as it is Wednesday and we are 1/2 way through the week, I think that calls for dancing. I dare you to try and sit still while watching this. I couldn’t, my feet were tapping, my head was bobbing, there might even have been a “jazz hands” moment or two, but I’ll just keep that one to myself.

Enjoy!

Listening in the Quiet

Wildflowers

I’ve done a lot of listening these past few days. School is over, no children about, so all is quiet. I have systematically been going through the studios, cleaning up, cleaning out and re-organizing. Through this process I have been plugged in, catching up on podcasts, listening to music, or simply working in silence, very aware of my surroundings.

I have also been using my cleaning time to meditate, focusing on some of my yogi practices. I am finding my quiet at work, now I am looking forward to being able to find it at home. The last few weeks of school always keep our house in a state of flux. It needs a thorough cleaning, more than the spit and polish it has been getting. As long as my kitchen is clean and my bathroom is clean, I can deal with anything else. But I am ready for everything to be in it’s place.

I shall have a few days to myself soon and I plan to work through the cottage, like I am working through the studios, systematically, carefully, with love and listening in the quiet.

Exhale

Photobooth 1960s

Well Friday has finally arrived and with it, I hope there is a chance to catch my breath. I’m just ready to slowly exhale. There was a graduation ceremony at school on Wednesday, so my scuba class was canceled, I missed it. I missed being in the water. The previous week we got to dive in with all of our equipment on and enter the pool by doing a somersault, I don’t think I ever want to enter the pool another way again!

I’m working on editing my Copenhagen pictures at the moment, there are just so many to share! But I’ve narrowed it down to a few favourites. So, I’m hoping to keep my promise to get those posts out soon and have them done and dusted this weekend.

I think we shall have a quiet weekend, although there are a couple of exhibitions on at the moment I wouldn’t mind popping in to. We shall simply see what the weekend holds for us.

Last weekend we welcomed the arrival of Summer with a fresh peach cobbler, but I’ve been craving a brownie, so we might whip up a batch of those this weekend and devour them with a big scoop of ice cream.

Next week brings with it the 4th of July and so I want to work on a menu plan for that, I’m more interested in what dessert I shall make, maybe a shortcake cake filled with vanilla whipped cream, blueberries and strawberries is just what the occasion calls for? We shall see.

School is slowly winding down, although I think the fast heady pace will stay until the last day. I shall soon have more time to myself to get back to my home here and share all the things that I want to share with you.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, wherever you may be. Here’s to the weekend! Long may it last!

Half Way

Misteltoe

Today is the 25th of June, a Wednesday. We have reached the half way mark in the week. We have also reached the half way mark in the year. It’s 6 months till Christmas. This year is zooming by and this month has kept me spinning. I’m working toward being able to just be still and to be able to have time to come in to my little home here and write, I’m truly missing it at the moment.

Happy Wednesday, we’ve almost made it to Friday!

Wednesday

Jennifer Michie Flower Head

This week is going by in a blur. My Monday morning started with a long detour to work as there was a fire at London Marylebone over the weekend and it was shut. From that point forward, I feel like I have been spending the week thus far, running to catch up.

I have another scuba diving lesson tonight and a few things to get done when I get home and then I can put my feet up for five minutes. I just read the most delicious book, so that has been added to my already long list of things to share with you. I promise, my Copenhagen posts are coming soon!

We spent my birthday morning in Regent’s Park eating breakfast in the Japanese Garden. The above image was a close-up of a cluster of roses, still fresh with morning dew, that I shot in one of the rose gardens. They are named, “lucky”. I liked that!

Happy Wednesday my friends, we are almost at the end of the week!

On A Clear Day

Jennifer Michie On A Clear Day

Well, my Copenhagen posts are coming, I promise. This week has been very busy with back to back exams, canceled trains (because there was no driver!), late school nights, another scuba lesson (which was fantastic, by the way!) and not a lot of time to catch my breath!

For now, I give you my morning view. The sun was shining the birds were singing extra sweetly since they know it’s Friday and the sky was almost cloudless as I traveled past the lake. There was almost an azure blue appearance to the sky. All I could think of was Barbra Streisand twirling around in her 70’s orange coat to “On A Clear Day”.

My morning was made all the sweeter now that one of the coffee shops is doing an iced lemon tea. I picked up one for breakfast, now if I only had one of my Mom’s biscuits to go with it, life would be even better! Iced tea for breakfast, just speaks to my Southern heart.

I shall leave you with Barbra belting out this tune, while I enjoy the sunshine streaming through the windows of the main studio and sips of my iced tea!

Here’s to the weekend! Long may it last.

Nate Bargatze

We had a wonderful weekend. I have so much to share with you, but for now, I’m sharing something that made us laugh, as after my day today, I need to laugh. This was such a long day at school, it all went wrong when my train was cancelled and the heavens opened up and I was soaked before I made it on to the next train. Couple that with rude people who were pushing to get on, which I refuse to do and a really lovely gentleman (NOT!) who moved me out of his way, so he could rush to a seat! Where have manners and common decency gone?

From that point on, the tone of my day was set, no matter what I seemed to do to shake it, things kept going wrong. It was like the old Shirelles’ song, “Mama Said”. (Mama said there will be days like this, there will be days like this my Mama said!). This has been one heck of day, so you have two choices, you either laugh or you cry and I’m choosing laughter.

This made Mr. Michie and I laugh the other night when we were watching Jimmy Fallon! Hope your having a better Monday than me, wherever you may be today!

Radiohead, Film Editing & The Weekend

I am a Radiohead fan. I have an old concert t-shirt of theirs I stole from Mr. Michie many many moons ago, it is perfectly soft. He is an even bigger Radiohead fan and so he smiled sweetly and closed his eyes when I played this for him this chilly Saturday morning, found via The Fox is Black.

I have a film to finish editing this weekend that will go on display along with 14 other films in St. John Smith’s Square Music Hall this week. It is an abstract film that will accompany the symphony. It has been an interesting process for me as I have never made a piece of abstract film before. I will post the film and share more on that soon.

Oh, the weekend! Those two words: THE WEEKEND, hark so gloriously to my ears. This week has been insanely busy, with more than a few late nights. It is funny to think that the place you call home, the place you spend time creating as an oasis is sometimes the place you spend your least amount of time in. I have spent more time outside of my house than in it this week. Hmm, I think this work/life balance thing needs some reconsideration.

We plan to do a lot of walking this weekend, a little coffee drinking, a bit of shopping as I am working on putting together some surprise packages and a lot of delicious eating and being in each other’s company. Being with Mr. Michie makes me happy.

A Shoebox Camera

I’m co-teaching a pinhole photography course this term and we have moved away from our coffee tin cameras to shoebox cameras.

One of the girls was having an issue with her camera. After inspecting her developed prints, I fixed what I thought was the problem and then I took a test shot myself to see if I fixed it and got this after doing a double exposure:

ShoeBox Camera

I never grow tired of this process. It is plain and simple magic!
