Scoop

Jennifer Michie ScoopThis was my Saturday dessert. It was so hot, we walked down Brewer Street to get some ice cream at Scoop. I had a cone covered in sprinkles with vanilla and biscotti ice cream and it was delicious!

Easter Treats

Still enjoying the leftovers of Easter.

We got a scrumptious nest cake from Our Daily Bread Bakery for dessert, the  Easter tree for a baby girl’s first Easter and glorious truffles that my sister was kind enough to share some with me, they were heavenly!

Monday, Monday

Well, I was going to share my weekend with you today. But, this Monday has just about killed me. Upon arriving to work this morning and entering the cupboard, I noticed a terribly fishy smell. Literally a fishy smell as there were fish in the fridge in my room that had been brought in to use for life drawing on Friday.

Over the weekend their lovely fish juices began to flow and that coupled with the bit of ice that was still in their bags dripped onto the fridge motor and burned it out, which tripped the fuse in my room, shut the fridge down along with everything else.

So flash forward to today and there has been fish juices and yucky water dripping onto the floor all weekend and not just to any floor, but a heated floor. I could have caught JAWS with the smell of that stuff.

So, on went the gloves, out went the fridge and hot water and bleach went everywhere. I have scrubbed, wiped, sprayed and the smell is still lingering. I even put the fan on high, just to get air moving, as there are no windows in the cupboard.

We all walked around today with our noses scrinched. So, I shall save what I was going to share with you and instead show you the photographs of the fish I took on Friday, as we were documenting them to use for future classes.

As Anne of Green Gables says, “Tomorrow is a new day, with no mistakes in it yet!”, so I’m hoping for a better tomorrow then today has been!

Orange You Glad?

Orange you glad its Friday? I am!

I had a glorious plan to make fresh cinnamon rolls this morning with orange cream cheese frosting. Hence this gorgeously packaged orange that Mr. Michie bought me.

What is it about fruit that is beautifully wrapped? Who knows why, but it does something for me. There somehow is this essence of  nostalgia hidden and tucked within the crinkled waxed paper wrapper. You could imagine buying this 60 odd years ago from a market stall, your white gloves daintily picking it up as you marvel at the luxury of buying an exotic item such as an orange.

Sadly, the cinnamon rolls did not get made as I chose to sleep 10 more minutes, so tomorrow morning fresh cinnamon rolls and a pot of coffee will start our Saturday morning off.

And, if the weather forecast is correct there will be heaps of snow coming in on Sunday, so I just might get that one more longed for snow day off from school.

Have a wonderful weekend!

No Snow YET!

The snow didn’t come quickly enough this morning, so off to work we go. It will apparently be coming in at 10am this morning and possibly not stopping till Sunday if you go with one report. So, I imagine that it will be absolute chaos this afternoon trying to get all the students home, albeit organized chaos.

But, it is the weekend, so we have that to look forward too, even though we don’t have a cozy snow day off!

UPDATE: it is now coming down like a little blizzard out there and we will be closing the school early this afternoon. It  looks just like a little snow globe outside that someone has shaken with dizzying delight. Just before it really started to fall heavily, I caught this little seagull just observing it all from the roof:

Our Day

Mr. Michie and I each went our own ways yesterday to run errands and do a little Christmas shopping before we met up again to see, The Hobbit. It was wonderful, Peter Jackson has done such a fantastic job of tying everything in so far, the links between this and The Lord of the Rings was very nicely done.

While I was getting ready, Mr. Michie snapped this on his phone, I thought it was cute, so I am posting it. I love that he will set up a little scene and take a picture. This is a mini Yoda from a Happy Meal we have had for ages, he is a “magic 8 ball” Yoda and lives in the kitchen:

Frosted

Last night there was a fog “as thick as pea soup!”, as they say. The visibility in some areas was non-existent. We were lucky we could see the bus coming. We got home and the candle glowing in our window was a welcoming sight!

We stayed bundled up last night. Mr. Michie graded papers and I worked on a scarf I am knitting while talking to my sister (via Skype) and listening to Christmas music in between.

The fog cleared in the night but the dampness combined with the cold air has left a glorious frost on everything. All the trees and plants and rooftops and grass was covered in a sparkle of frostiness this morning, all highlighted by a blue gray sky.

Even the cobwebs along the fence posts were crystallized. It was like something out of science book, watching crystals form and grow. The frost shot off of the branches in sharp little points, like iced needles.

The world was magical this morning and I am blessed that I got to see it.
