Wednesday

Jennifer Michie Flower Head

This week is going by in a blur. My Monday morning started with a long detour to work as there was a fire at London Marylebone over the weekend and it was shut. From that point forward, I feel like I have been spending the week thus far, running to catch up.

I have another scuba diving lesson tonight and a few things to get done when I get home and then I can put my feet up for five minutes. I just read the most delicious book, so that has been added to my already long list of things to share with you. I promise, my Copenhagen posts are coming soon!

We spent my birthday morning in Regent’s Park eating breakfast in the Japanese Garden. The above image was a close-up of a cluster of roses, still fresh with morning dew, that I shot in one of the rose gardens. They are named, “lucky”. I liked that!

Happy Wednesday my friends, we are almost at the end of the week!

Let The Weekend Begin

Friday has come at last and I am so happy! My Birthday is this weekend and we are going to start celebrating tonight, with dinner from Five Guys and watching a good movie on our vintage projection screen for Friday the 13th. I’m voting for The Goonies or maybe Sixteen Candles.

We’re gonna make my birthday cake tonight and tomorrow I want to get up early, grab some coffee and walk through Regent’s Park, one of my favorite parks in London. I want to stroll around when it is still peaceful and the zoo animals are just waking up. We are going to visit the new Folk Art Exhibition at the Tate Britain and maybe grab a bite out.

And, we shall just take it from there. I don’t want anything too planned out, just something fun and simple. I also want to carve out a little time this weekend to finish my Copenhagen posts and one or two other things that have been on the back burner!

The sun is out today, I was lucky and got to have my Friday meeting out on the balcony. So over business, I could work on my tan. Life is good! Here’s to Fridays and Birthdays and THE WEEKEND! Long may it last!

Monday Morning

Jennifer Michie Morning Journey

The air was cool this morning and the sun was bright. There is still a breeze blowing but it is starting to heat up now. It reminded me of spring time in the Blue Ridge mountains. The air would be cool in the morning and would stay that way under the shade of a tree throughout the day, even in the relentless heat. I grew up at the base of those mountains and they still call to me. Once the Blue Ridge is in your blood it stays there, its the same for the coast. I was lucky I had the best of both worlds, the mountains and the sea.

The sun was beaming down and there was a mist over the lake that I pass on my way into work, so I snapped a picture from my train window. It was a beautiful journey in to central London today. It just makes me sad that it is Monday, today is too beautiful to be trapped indoors at school!

An Auspicious Day

I knew yesterday was a lucky day! Yesterday, I used a new bag I had purchased in a sale ages ago and put on my new sneakers as my first ever pair of pink Converse had bitten the dust. I couldn’t figure out why my feet got so wet in the storm we had last week and then I noticed a big hole in the side of my shoe, plus the rubber soles wore worn paper thin. The shoe repairman near my school said there was nothing that he could do to fix them, so my sneakers and I parted ways.

With my new aqua colored Converse on we headed out the door and into London to see the Matisse Exhibition at the Tate Modern. I have long been a fan of Matisse and I will be sharing a couple images of the show with you this week, but this is about about an auspicious day.

I have not seen my fox since the early Fall and I had been worried about him. I normally bump into him by this point in the year, but our paths had yet to cross. But, yesterday they did. As the train pulled out of the station with the sun streaming down, I gazed at the meadow that runs the length of the platform. As we neared the tunnel, I saw two reddish ears poking up and I knew it was him.

I only caught a small glimpse, but he majestically laid amongst the wildflowers, sunning himself. His beautiful rusty red coat, standing out from the greens, purples, yellow and white flowers dancing around his head.

I looked around the train in excitement, but no one else had seen him. No one else had shared in the magic. He was my lucky sign, today was going to be a good day! Welcome to Spring, Mr. Fox, I’m so glad we are meeting again.

I’ll Have What She’s Having

Jennifer Michie Date Night Crepe

We kicked off our three day weekend with a Friday Date Night. We had dinner and then stopped for dessert at a crepe stand. I had the “I’ll Have What She’s Having”, a crepe filled with Belgian Chocolate, strawberries, and whipped cream! For the “When Harry Met Sally” reference alone, I was sold. It was delicious and the perfect end to a wonderful evening.

Dale Chihuly

Jennifer Michie Dale Chihuly London

I am a huge Dale Chihuly fan! I remember the first time I every saw his work in person. It was the early 2000s and the Victoria & Albert Museum was holding an exhibition of his work. There was one piece in which you walked through a tunnel and once inside you were completely surrounded by colorful pieces of glass that stretched and twisted around you. There were lights shining through that sparkled and shimmered. It was like walking through a coral reef. I fell in love.

He has a show on at the moment at the Halcyon Gallery in London. We stopped by this weekend and this was a quick snap I grabbed. What he does with glass is truly mesmerizing. I could quite happily have this in my home and look at it everyday! You could walk around it a hundred times and still find something new to discover. It was like a moored boat that has started to grow the strangest barnacles out of its hull.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend, wherever you may be today.

Cha Cha Moon

Jennifer Michie Cha Cha Moon

Cha Cha Moon is one of our favorite little places for fast and delicious food. There is nothing better for dinner on a cool Spring day after a 3 hour walk in the park than a bowl of Wonton Soup.

Happiness is…

The name of our restaurant was also befitting, as last night the moon was so full and close to us, I think we could have walked down the street, hopped along the stars and kept on going till we reached the moon.

Monday, Monday!

Jennifer Michie Monday

This was my view as I came out of the tube this morning. The sun was shining and it was a glorious walk to school. All I could think of was the beat to Monday Monday, the Mamas & The Papas song. Although, compared to the lyrics of the song, I have had a wonderful morning, it was just the sound of this song that was in my head as I walked down the street. Happy Monday to you, wherever you may be today!

Commit Random Acts of Kindness

Kindness

We had to run a few errands today as there was some things I didn’t quite get to with my crazy working week. Once we were done we realized we had quite a bit of time to kill before the next train home. The nearest place to the station was a little McDonald’s, so we ran in there to get a drink and sit down in the warmth. In England at the moment McDonald’s is running their Monopoly Game campaign, so all the food and drinks have stickers on them with board game pieces or instant win food prizes.

We sat down and were chit-chatting away, when an older couple came and sat down near us. The wife was arranging their food on the table when a somewhat scruffy looking gentleman walked up to them and asked her if she was collecting her tokens. She, replied with a swift “yes” and he smiled at her, nodded and then left the restaurant.

The couple started talking to each other and the husband realized that the gentlemen who spoke to them is a homeless man he has seen around town. The wife told him to go and get him. So, he got up and ran into the square to find him. A few minutes later he returned, pleasantly talking to the homeless gentleman and the wife handed him the game token off of her coffee cup which would give the man a free drink.

They made sure he had enough to eat, wished him well and then went back to their dinner, not saying another word about it. The homeless man went to the counter to get his drink and stopped to thank them on his way out, they smiled in return. They didn’t do it for any recognition. They made no fuss over it. They did it, because that is what we should all be doing. We should all aim to help those in need in whatever way we can. Maybe it can’t be a monetary value, but a smile and a kind word are FREE!

I was blessed to have witnessed this moment. For the giving of ourselves is a way forward toward inner peace and true happiness. Commit random acts of kindness, the world will be a better place for it!
