It’s Snowing

It’s just started snowing and I can’t wait to go out and play! The flakes are coming down swiftly as the wind blows them around and they are thick and fat. I think it is the perfect hot chocolate, staying warm under a quilt and being cozy kinda weather!

Diving In

This week has started out with a bang and so I have dove right in! I am already ready for Friday again!

I went to a friend’s house for dinner this evening and Mr. Michie came to pick me up and walk me home on this very frosty night. On our way, we saw a few snow flurries, so I am crossing my fingers, I love snow!

I need just one cozy, drinking hot chocolate, looking at my twinkle lights, staying under my quilt, finally getting to knit or crochet kinda snow days!

Snow Milk

Well, I promise this will be my last Christmas related post, although I don’t think snowmen are particularly related to Christmas, they exist with the snow and that, depending where you live could happen in any month!

I saw these on Bakerella’s blog and I thought they were just the cutest idea! Don’t you know if you came down to breakfast and saw him sitting at your place you would be delighted! I would be!

However, I would have to be unconventional with mine and have a brown snowman; I prefer chocolate milk with my doughnut holes! These are just so sweet, it would take me awhile to eat them, I don’t think I could bear to touch them and ruin their adorableness!

Rain

I looked at the weather report and what does it say for the next 10 days? Rain! I don’t want rain, I want to look out my window and see snow. Oh, Mother Nature, hear my plea, please bring snow to me!

I am only a few days in to the new school term and I already need a break. I am ready for a day to snuggle up under blankets, put on my twinkle lights and watch a holiday movie.

I know, I know, I am sorry for all of you who are cringing right now, Christmas is probably long gone in your house, but in mine I always have to keep one small bit of Christmas out all year long, just something teeny tiny. And, since we were having work done to our little cottage in the weeks leading up to Christmas, I only got to put out one teeny tiny tree and I haven’t been up the attic to put it back yet. So, that little miniature tree is bringing me joy on these dark nights.

I also have not gotten around to putting away my Christmas movies, and since I go to work before the sun rises and come home long after the sun has set, I am going to keep those movies out for a small while longer. Because, Judy Garland crooning away on my TV in “Meet Me in St. Louis”, a good blanket, the glow of a candle and Mr. Michie next to me, just makes me happy! So, please bring on the snow, I am ready!(Image found on Flickr)

Smile

This is what is making me smile this morning:

1)Gorgeous roses scattered around the house and cheering up little corners. The grocery store always has good deals and I am came home on Saturday smiling, arms laden with 3 big bunches of roses all bought for about £7, I was very happy with my little rosebud collection.

2)As my cutie pie stepped outside to head to work, we opened the door to the most gorgeous big fat flakes of SNOW, I have my fingers crossed that it keeps coming down, I wouldn’t mind being snowed in for a few days….

I hope there is something in your morning that makes you smile!

Maple Snow

All this snow has made me think of “Little House in the Big Woods”.  I loved reading this books as a child, it was a world I wanted to belong to.

I wanted to be in the sleigh with them as they drove through the snow to their Grandparent’s house, for the sap harvest.  Once, they arrived Pa joined the men folk, trudging off into the snow to help start the sap buckets.  Drilling holes into the thick bark to place a pipe that would drain the sap into the buckets below.

The women worked hard indoors for the party that would come that evening under the starlight. At the party to celebrate the winter harvest, Laura and Mary scoop fresh powdery snow into bowls and their Grandma ladles a stream of hot syrupy sap onto their dishes to make snow candy with. The sap hardened on the snow, thus making a chewy maple candy to enjoy.

“Grandma…poured hot syrup on each plate of snow. It cooled into soft candy, and as fast as it cooled they ate it. They could eat all they wanted, for maple sugar never hurt anybody.”

I always wanted to do this when I was little, I loved reading about Laura’s pioneer girl existence, I wanted to be a pioneer girl myself! I wanted to run through the fields with my hair in braids and my bonnet hanging down my back, the warm sun baking me as I brought Pa his lunch pail.

I found this recipe for “Snow Sugar” on the Laura’s Prairie House website:

I have not tried this particular recipe myself, so I will have to wait for the next snowfall and pull out my glass bottle of syrup and get to work!

Shake! Shake! Shake!

Shake! Shake! Shake! Oh! Shake! Shake! Shake! Shake that snow globe, shake that snow globe!

We awoke this morning to another snowfall, this time it was just a lovely dusting of snow. It is like living in a little snow globe world.

I think I am the only person in the whole of England who is still happy there is snow underfoot!  I watched, over a steaming mug of tea, as big fat flakes gently fell to the cold earth. Winter is such a graceful and hauntingly beautiful woman.

Staying Cozy

Snowy Morning

Wake
gently this morning
to a different day.
Listen.
There is no
bray of buses,
no brake growls,
no sirens howls and
no horns
blow.
There is only
the silence
of a city
hushed
by snow.
– Lilian Moore, The Golden Book of Poems for the Very Young

We were kissed by the Snow Queen this morning.  Awaking to more snow, swirling around in big fat flakes, like we were living inside a snow globe being shaken up. I love these mornings!

I am off to make a warming cup of hot chocolate and take my “lambiekin” clad feet back to bed for awhile to just enjoy the morning’s peace…
