Heading Toward Autumn

We had a wonderful, wonderful weekend this past weekend. We got to spend Sunday with friends who came all the way from Colorado! It was a miracle they made it out!

They are on a little traveling adventure and spent some of their very valuable time with us. We were simply thrilled! The world is a better place with kindred spirits in it. My girlfriend even brought me a few surprises, one of them being the lovely Susan Branch’s new book:

Oh! Happiness is!

The weather has taken a definite turn toward Autumn this past weekend and when I left the house yesterday morning to head to the train station it was a brisk 45 F!

The sunlight is changing too. While working in the main studio I noticed that the shadows were different. The room felt cooler with the light not streaming through as strongly as it had been a week before. It made me think of Wyeth, I think he would have liked painting in the main studio yesterday!

Last night we feasted on grilled cheese and tomato soup. I picked up a can of soup on my way home. I’m a Campbell’s girl and they had limited edition Andy Warhol’s “Soup Cans” as their design, so of course, that is what jumped into my basket. I think the soup even tasted better because it looked like an Andy Warhol can! Cute!

A Rainbow of Tulips

Jennifer Michie Rainbow TulipsAs I announced on Friday, we had some celebrating to do this weekend! I have accepted a position within a school in London and I am just elated!

However, it takes a village and I did not get this job on my own. I had family and friends who were keeping me in their thoughts and prayers as well as work colleagues who helped me in printing out my work, so the ink would be a truer color and then binding it for me as a portfolio, as well as giving me all their well wishes and warm hugs.

My friends at work were so happy for me on Thursday when I told them the news! I wanted to thank them as they didn’t have to lend me a hand in a hour of need, but they did, as great friends do! So these rainbow tulips were their thank you from me.

The world is a lot better place with my family and friends in it. I am lucky and I know it! I have a football field full of cheerleaders who are cheering just for me!

I have spent the morning baking an Italian Cream Cake for dessert tomorrow and I am meeting a friend for lunch today who I haven’t seen in ages! We have so much to catch up, it is going to be such a FUN afternoon! What a great way to spend a Tuesday.

The Weather

A rainy Monday seems to put everyone in a bad mood! It just makes me want to be at home, curled up on the couch with a nice cup of tea, the radio on, a candle going and a good book in hand. It has rained here from yesterday morning onward.

Last night the rain and wind whipped around the house, the drops beating against the window panes like a drum. This morning, it let up enough so that we didn’t get soaked catching the bus to school, but the heavy rain came back again in full swing not long after. I was so chilly when I got to work, I had to put on the little radiator by my desk, just to take the chill off.

On Friday night, we went out with some friends to one of our favorite pubs, The Royal Standard. They had never been before and enjoyed it immensely. It is one of the coziest pubs going, I think. You can just feel the history oozing out of its pores as you sit at your table, bathed in the glow of candlelight and as always the food was delicious. Good pub grub, but pub grub of a high standard.

I haven’t been there in ages. We had a jolly time in there at Christmas with my sister and her husband, a wonderful day, spent laughing, drinking and eating good food by the fire. The pub cat even came to sit with us, but I know that is only because my sister was with us, she is an animal whisperer.

It rained Friday afternoon and into the evening and as we drove to the Standard, the road and sidewalks were dotted with yellow leaves everywhere. The headlights from the car made them glow eerily, like little yellow lanterns scattered about. It felt like Autumn.

I think this is it! I think we just might be done with Summer. I am ready for it in some ways, but not in others. I am ready for golden and rust colored mums and pumpkins and crunchy leaves and hot apple cider. But, I shall miss my sunshine and warmer weather.

But seasons change and with it, so do we.

Happy Leap Year

Happy Leap Year!

Today is the 29th of February and so 2012 welcomes in a Leap Year. I am celebrating mine with turning the date on this adorable calendar given to me by a dear someone. What about you?

(Please forgive the image quality, it was so early in the morning when I took this and I did not do justice to the cuteness of the calendar!)
