Foxy Whipped CreamWell, we are thankful for many things this month. Most notably, getting to share a Thanksgiving feast with the Michie’s. We stuffed ourselves with turkey and cornbread dressing and mashed potatoes and green beans with roasted peppers.

Our contribution to dinner was dessert. Pies are a specialty of mine and I got to work rolling out my dough. I cut stars to go around the edge and GiGi helped me make the pumpkin filling. The house was filled with the scents of cinnamon and pumpkin baking into a lovely custardy pie. The smell filled every nook and cranny of the cottage, it definitely felt like Fall.

As it was in the oven, we went to work making the whipped cream to serve alongside it. GiGi added in the sugar and vanilla and I did all the whipping. After it began to get fluffy, I dived in for a taste test, my paws and whiskers were covered with luscious cream! It was delicious.

Unfortunately, there are no pictures of my finished pie, topped with lashings of billowy whipped cream, for by the time we ate dessert, we were all to stuffed, to happy and enjoying each other’s company too much to take a picture. Alas, it is a memory only for us to relish. I hope all of you have had a lovely November, Christmas is soon on its way.

To the Fair we go…

Foxy to the FairGoose Girl and I have had a bit of a hectic October and I have yet to have a chance to post anything. One thing that has been keeping us very busy is our pumpkin patch. We annually grow pumpkins, cultivating them to be monster sized gourds that we enter in to our local fair every year for the “Giant Pumpkin Contest”.

We have been keeping a close eye on our patch since the weather turned, protecting them when it got too cold at night, we didn’t want a frost to ruin our chances!

The big day was fast approaching and GiGi and I selected the pumpkin we would take with us and kept a very close eye on it as the flesh turned a delicious sunset orange.

On the day of the fair, she helped me tie carrying ropes to our pumpkin as I climbed onto our tractor and drove down our little country road to the fair.

We arrived just in time for the big weigh-in and we came in at a whopping 105lbs. We walked around after that, enjoying a few rides. I love the glimmer and sparkle of all the lights you see at the top of the ferris wheel. I got some pink cotton candy, which stuck to my whiskers and GiGi bought a colossal sized candy apple and a frozen lemonade. We slowly made our way back to the judging tent to see if all the gourds had been weighed in.

They had and there was a prodigious sized blue ribbon on our pumpkin! We won! In all of our worries to make sure we got the pumpkin to the fair safely we forgot to bring our camera. But, I can tell you we were jumping up and down and dancing, some friends took pictures of us with our pumpkin, so as soon as they send us the prints I will post them…

Foxy’s first thought when he spied the chicken coop was dinner. But then
he remembered that chickens are friends. So instead he pulled out his
camera and snapped a few delightful photos of the lovely hens and

G’noming Around

Walk 1

It has been raining off and on for a few days now keeping me cooped up in doors. So, when a brief moment of stillness fell upon the world and the pitter-patter of raindrops subsided, I decided to take a stroll through the woods, in the hope of seeing a little ray of sun; relishing the chance to stretch my legs.

I walked down the lane and headed toward the pond when I saw a little man staring at me through the blades of grass. We just stood there for a moment spying each other and then more little hooded men came onto the path.

Walk 2

I realized that I had stumbled onto something magical, something few creatures get to see: A little gnome colony. I decided to follow them and was invited to see their moss garden.

Walk 3

I found a little watering can next to a mushroom and carried that up the hill with me. There was a little party of gnomes up there, gently tending to their garden.

Walk 6

Walk 7

I set down my watering can and began to look around. One was pushing a little wheelbarrow, one was raking through the fine mossy mesh and the one in the front carried a little lantern so they could see their way home at night.

Walk 8

They stopped for lunch and I was invited to join them. We drank apple cider from the caps of acorns and feasted on crusty bread and nettle soup.

Walk 4 Walk 5I thanked them after we were done and headed home (as I knew Gigi would be getting worried) with the promise to return soon. I was waved goodbye, by this little chap happily sitting on a miniature toadstool. It was a lovely afternoon, spent in the company of very jovial little gnomes.

Class of 2011

GG and Foxy Class of 2011

Well, school is out for Summer! Today is our very last day and we have so many things on our To-Do list for the Summer Holidays.

We plan to have lots of bike rides and picnics, see an Art exhibition or two, do a little travelling, a little reading. Hopefully, I will be able to pull out my needles and do a little knitting with Jennifer, I have the most wonderful scarf pattern, I want to try my hand at for Foxy. I also plan to go berry picking, making ruby coloured strawberry jam that we can have on toast with lashings of butter is definitely on the menu!

I do hope we have some lovely summery days and the rain we have had this week passes us by for a little while, because I am ready for some fun in the sun!

Love, GiGi

Harry Potter Fever

Harry Potter

We’ve caught the “Harry Potter Bug”. I loved reading the Harry Potter books. I remember when the last book came out, armed with a flask of hot chocolate and a blanket, I waited patiently for the bookstore to open its doors at midnight for the Harry Potter Party, where my pre-ordered book was waiting to jump into my hands.

Foxy, wasn’t so sure about Harry Potter at first, he felt that they might be a little too childish for him, but I convinced him to give them a go and sure enough he was hooked. We have seen all the movies as well and couldn’t wait to see the final one together.

We celebrated the opening of the new film on Friday night, by watching “The Deathly Hallows Part 1”, ordering a huge cheese pizza, popping a big bowl of popcorn and eating peanut M&Ms. So, when Saturday came we were more than ready to see the final installment of this wonderful series.

If we were going to see it, I was going in costume! I made a wand and a hat and Harry Potter glasses for Foxy and I to wear. We waited patiently in line to collect our tickets and then stuffed ourselves with hot dogs, popcorn and coke. We laughed, we cried, we held our breath even though we knew how it would end. There were moments when I was on the edge of my seat, Foxy just used his paw to gently push me back. It was a magical movie and a magical day out!

Ice-Cream Swirls

Foxy and Smarties Ice Cream

It has been hot off and on here this week. However, there were one or two rainy days that made the temperature drop exceedingly and all I wanted to do was watch Christmas movies and eat popcorn. There is that American tradition of “Christmas in July”, you know…

But, it has gotten warmer again and today my fur has truly heated up as I basked in the sunshine to take a nap. I knew the only way, I was going to cool off was to eat some ice-cream. Lucky for me, Jennifer was on her way to run some errands and kindly agreed to pick up a tub of something cool and ambrosial for me to delve into.

She came back with a tub of whipped vanilla ice-cream that was covered in Smarties. There is nothing better than ice-cream with a little candy on top. I just jumped right in, whiskers first and it was delicious!

I don’t even think I will eat dinner tonight, I just want more ice-cream. But, maybe this time with some chocolate syrup and sprinkles! Heaven!

Meet & Greet

Introducing GiGi & FoxyI would like to introduce you to Goose Girl & Foxy. Some of you may already be aware of their adventures and have met them here.  But, today is a historic day. Having very sweetly asked for their own blog I have happily obliged and provided them with one.

I am not always sure what they get up to when I am not around, so this will serve as a place for them to set their adventures down on paper.

They are pretty easy going by nature, so I imagine their blog shall be as well. No rules, it will just evolve as time goes on, because that is what Foxy feels should happen.

So, stay tuned, there are adventures yet to be had and stories yet to be told…
