A Turkey Sandwich

My Monday wish came true, I got to eat a turkey sandwich! This year, that is all I truly wanted out of Thanksgiving, was a turkey sandwich and a slice of pumpkin pie. We left work last night in the pouring rain and got soaking wet waiting for the bus, I don’t know if my jacket will ever dry out! We came in, took off our wet clothes, threw on some pj bottoms and sweatshirts and heated up a little spinach and artichoke dip.

We snacked on that and talked about our day, then we worked on making some turkey sandwiches. I sliced the bread while Mr. Michie picked out a Christmas movie. It had been a long day, so we decided to just keep vegging out and stayed on the couch under our quilt to eat our delectable sandwiches made with the Thanksgiving leftovers and watched The Santa Claus. Our evening would not have been complete if we didn’t eat a slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream of course!

Today was such a long day, I am already ready for the weekend again, crazy isn’t it!

Sunday

We awoke to rain this morning, beating against the window panes and thundering down on the roof. It was still slightly dark outside and our room felt warm and cozy and bear cave like. Mr. Michie left me to make a pot of coffee and I feel back to sleep for another 20 minutes. One of those wonderfully restful sleeps, where you know you have had the best sleep in that time then you had during entire the night.

We made pancakes and sausage for breakfast, a special Sunday treat. It is quiet today, the house is quiet, we are quiet, outside is quiet. I think the house knows that we are going back to school tomorrow and it will be mourning its happy occupants this past week who filled the house during the day.

I enjoy my work with the students, but I must say, I am very selfish with my time, I have relished this week of just being. I didn’t accomplish everything that I wanted too, but that is alright. It was what it was supposed to be and we rested and pitter-pattered around and cooked great food together and listened to music and caught up on some TV shows we watch and munched on Halloween candy in-between.

I have meant to share this for awhile now, but for one reason or another I just forgot. The weather seems to fit the mood of the colors used in this piece today and watching this is like seeing a magic trick take place before you.

This was created by the very talented Maisie Broadhead, she is known for her photographic parodies where she recreates fine art paintings into photographs. She has work in the The National Gallery Photography Exhibition that has just started this past week, Seduced by Art. It is on my list of exhibits I would like to see.

We are going to continue to just be today. Mr. Michie is planning a few lessons and grading papers, I am staying cozy, listening to music, reading and planning on making one of our favorite Julia Child chicken recipes tonight, to celebrate the end of our week and the start of our next school term.

The Great Pumpkin

It is that time of year again and Halloween wouldn’t officially be Halloween for me, if I didn’t get to watch Charlie Brown. So last night, was a movie night in our household. The scene was set, the candles were lit and it was FUN!

Yesterday afternoon I made a big pot of chili, using a new recipe that I adapted a little. When the chili was almost ready, Mr. Michie went to work making his famous guacamole to go on top of it, while I set up the screen and projector.

I love this projector, it is old, it has an old smell to it, not displeasing, just old and slightly musty, it is from the early 60’s, I feel like I am in my own little episode of Mad Men, when we set it up to watch something on it.

We popped a few beers, plunked down on the couch and watched. It was wonderful, as always, you just can’t go wrong with Charlie Brown. We left the screen up last night, I am planning on watching Hocus Pocus this evening, with a steaming cup of apple cider and a bowl of fresh popped popcorn.

Honey Harvest

I love this video from Kinfolk. My aunt keeps bees. There is something so beautiful to see, as those bees buzz around their white boxes and flitter too and fro through her garden, the fruits of their labor turned in to a golden sticky flowing river of wonderfulness.

Honey is one of the sweetest parts of Summer. Fresh honey on a warm biscuit just out of the oven that has been slathered with butter, is one of the best breakfasts I can think of. By biscuit, I mean a Southern biscuit, not an English one, aka cookie!

I am doing a little harvesting of my own this August and am going to enjoy where I am right now. So, for the next few weeks I will be taking a break and just posting images of my adventures, here and there.

Happy August! Happy Summer! I am welcoming you with open arms that have longed to feel your warmth against me.

Goonies Never Say Die!

I grew up watching “The Goonies” and somewhere far away, over an ocean and on a small island, Mr. Michie grew up watching this movie too!

What could be better than a Spielberg movie from the 80’s? A great cast? Pirates? A treasure hunt? Cyndi Lauper singing the theme tune?

It is one of our favorites and we both felt, it was the perfect movie to watch on our screen. So, we had a carpet picnic. Mr. Michie made dinner, I took care of the popcorn and the movie and we just vegged out.

It was a fun night, it has been awhile since we had a carpet picnic and we always love doing it, it reminds me of being little, my mom would do this for my sister and I on rainy Summer days, it always made your house feel more exciting, like you were going on a mini adventure!

Mr. Michie, popcorn, a quilt on the floor and “The Goonies” on the “big screen” all equals a great date night!

Christmas in July Movie Night

Well, we did have another movie night over the weekend! I got to pick and there wasn’t any way I was letting July slip by without a Christmas in July party! I used the excuse that it starts out in the Summer months and moves through the seasons, so it was a movie for any time of year! Mr. Michie just smiled at me.

So, Mr. Michie made some fresh popcorn, we cozied up under quilts, as it has turned quite cool here and put on, “Meet Me in St. Louis”.

It looks even better projected onto our little screen! It was fun night. We laughed, we cried, who doesn’t shed a tear when Judy Garland thinks it is her last dance in St. Louis and Grandpa whisks her behind the tree only to pass her over to John. I always get tearful when I watch that part!

It was a wonderful movie and a wonderful night! Tonight, we are going to make chili dogs, eat popcorn and watch, “The Goonies”, because GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!

School’s Out for Summer!

School’s out for Summer! The sun just seems to be shining brighter because of this fact! Here is a clip from one of my favorite movies! More to come on that, so stay tuned until tomorrow, for now, just enjoy!

Altered Route

I showed this to Mr. Michie the other night and smiled at him, as he told me what moves he used to be able to do on his skateboard.

I never thought I would be married to a little skateboarding man, but he was pretty cool growing up he tells me, he could even do the handstand move! This was almost like watching a ballet on wheels. His body strength and composure was beautiful to see.

I am just amazed at how this park has been abandoned and that they still have footage of what it actually used to be like, with people enjoying it!
