Munchkins and Other Things

Jennifer Michie Munchkin

Mr. Michie bought me my first munchkin of the season this weekend. It looks so cheery tucked in around my Halloween and Fall decor.

It was a very wet weekend, so we stayed in and bundled up, drank copious amounts of tea and had all our little candles flickering away. I caught up on our mountain of laundry and worked on an art project for school. So my afternoon was spent listening to the Capital Cities album and cutting and pasting and sketching and doodling. And now, I can’t get this song out of my head:

Mr. Michie took me out to dinner on Saturday night, it was a great date! We braved the rain on Sunday to run to the grocery store, my green polka dot wellies kept my feet nice and dry! All in all, it was relaxing and everything a quiet weekend pottering around should be!

The Weekend

Isn’t she cute? The pink suit, the adorable shoes, the HAIR! It is huge and I LOVE it! Her little “Hey, Y’all” wave.

The weekend is here and I am so excited. We are going to relax, run some errands, maybe go to the movies…

Last night we had a truly Fall dinner in the form of, pumpkin pancakes, the mix was made by Target’s, Archer Farms, it was delicious! On, a side note, I adore Archer Farm’s packaging as well and the mix was already in a pouch that onced open could be ziplocked! Target is always making my life easier! We had sausage on the side and I made a spiced cider recipe that Mr. Michie spotted on my Pinterest page.

Jennifer Michie Breakfast for Dinner

Those pumpkin pancakes, were mouth watering! I love having breakfast for dinner! My Fall food has continued as this morning I was able to get a pumpkin spice latte from Starbuck’s, the very sweet barista made me one, even though they don’t launch them until October 3rd. Happiness is…

This Friday is already shaping up to be wonderful:

  1. My Mom called me while I was getting ready for work, we got to talk for a few minutes, it has MADE MY DAY!
  2. When I walked outside this morning the sky was a gorgeous pearly pink, like the inside of a conch shell. The air was fresh and breezy.
  3. Even though I had to wait for a second tube to come through this morning, because everyone was packed like sardines in the first one, I got a seat! That almost never happens!
  4. I got my FIRST pumpkin spice latte of the season. WOO-HOO!
  5. It is pay day today!

Well, here’s to the weekend, long may it last!

An Orange Mum

Jennifer Michie Orange Mum

Mums say “Fall” to me. I got my first mum of the season last weekend and it has just started to bloom.

It has been rainy the past two days here and coming home tonight and seeing that golden orange sunset burst of color from the mum’s blossoms on our front stoop, made me smile.

Heading Toward Autumn

We had a wonderful, wonderful weekend this past weekend. We got to spend Sunday with friends who came all the way from Colorado! It was a miracle they made it out!

They are on a little traveling adventure and spent some of their very valuable time with us. We were simply thrilled! The world is a better place with kindred spirits in it. My girlfriend even brought me a few surprises, one of them being the lovely Susan Branch’s new book:

A Fine Romance Susan Branch

Oh! Happiness is!

The weather has taken a definite turn toward Autumn this past weekend and when I left the house yesterday morning to head to the train station it was a brisk 45 F!

The sunlight is changing too. While working in the main studio I noticed that the shadows were different. The room felt cooler with the light not streaming through as strongly as it had been a week before. It made me think of Wyeth, I think he would have liked painting in the main studio yesterday!

Last night we feasted on grilled cheese and tomato soup. I picked up a can of soup on my way home. I’m a Campbell’s girl and they had limited edition Andy Warhol’s “Soup Cans” as their design, so of course, that is what jumped into my basket. I think the soup even tasted better because it looked like an Andy Warhol can! Cute!

Pumpkin Weather

Bersa Butik Pumpkin

Oh how we love pumpkin season.  You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right?  Winter, Spring, Summer, Pumpkin…. We anxiously anticipate it every year.  ~Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer, October 2010

This weekend brought with it cooler temperatures and the feeling that the cottage should be filled with pumpkins! I am ready to buy mums for my flower pots and dot pumpkins around the house. Soon, enough I suppose, I just have to be patient a little longer!

Indian Summer

Girl in Leaves

Today was hot. It was in the mid 80’s. That might not seem so hot, but being in an office with no air circulating, makes it feel more oppressive then it possibly was. The sweat seemed to trickle down my neck in small rivulets as I worked filing some paperwork away.

Tonight the temperature will drop into the low 60’s and we should be staying around that for the next few days. We have entered into the season of Indian Summer; hot days and cool nights.

I love this time of year, the magic of one season slipping into the next. You don’t want to blink or you might miss it.

The First of September

Today, ushers in the First day of September. The weekend has brought with it, our first taste of Autumn. The days have been sunny and cool, while the nights have held a chill. Last night, we smelled our first fire of the year as one of our neighbours had a cozy fire smouldering away in their grate, inaugurating the beginning of the Autumnal season.

This week will bring with it warmer weather again, but now that I have had this small tang of Autumn on my tongue, I want more. I am ready for pumpkins and crunchy leaves and crisp apples and the shadows to change.

One of my most favorite movies, with an absolute stellar cast is, On Golden Pond. The main theme holds the essence of Fall for me. I can see the loons on the lake, the sunset hues of leaves dotted around and the sound of the water lapping against the shore. The perfect place to canoe to a small island on the lake, have a lazy afternoon picnic and row home for a cozy night in.

Munchkin

I’ve begun to put away fall, but I just love my little munchkins so, I am sad to part with them.

They are either going to become gifts to the forest or as my Mom cleverly suggested, I spray paint them white or gold and place them within my Christmas decor…
