Summer

It feels as if we have turned a corner today and that summer might just have arrived to our neck of the woods.

The sunshine is out, it is warm, the air is balmy. I’m ready to put my toes in the sand and watch the waves roll in and just listen to Stevie Nicks. This Queen of Rock ‘N Roll is always a good summertime pick!

Here’s to Wednesday! We’re half-way to the weekend!

True Survivor

I have a secret. It’s a guilty pleasure secret and I’m going to share it with you. About two weeks ago, I read about a Kickstarter campaign to make a time traveling movie called “Kung Fury”. David Hasselhoff is involved in the project and has made a music video.

The title song, “True Survivor”, along with the video is just the best reminiscent cheesy 80’s piece of happiness that I have come across in awhile. I can’t stop listening to this song, it’s just too good. I’ve played it so often, Mr. Michie even knows all the words. I played it for my parent’s and they liked it too. I’m not ashamed to admit, I like “The Hoff”, singing away in his leather jacket in front of a white Knight Rider styled car.

I think the title of the song is appropriate, because that is what I have done this week: SURVIVED! Here’s to the weekend!

Pretty in Pink

One of my all time favourite John Hughes’ movies is: Pretty in Pink! The cast is great (Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer, Andrew McCarthy, Harry Dean Stanton, Annie Potts and James Spader), the costumes are even better; the music, oh, don’t even get me started!  Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s, “If You Leave”, one of the greatest 80’s songs ever, that took us in to movie bliss in the middle of a darkened parking lot at the end!

This past week, James Corden recreated the famous record store scene with Jon Cryer (who plays Duckie). I loved it! Is it just me, or does anyone else think, Jon Cryer should keep wearing his hair like that? That wig just seems to work for him.

Here’s to the weekend, long may it last!

Curtis Harding

There is a magic to Curtis Harding. When I first heard this song, I thought it was “Old School”, it has that rhythm. It has the rhythm of a classic, you know what I mean?

The first time I heard it, it was a Saturday morning and I had the radio on while I was folding laundry. I believe I heard it on BBC Radio 6, while listening to The Huey Morgan Show (I love his program and if I’m at home, it is normally my Saturday musical listening choice, as he always has an eclectic playlist). It might have been another station, I don’t remember, it’s not important anyway. The important thing is that I just remember that I stopped folding and sat back and listened and smiled.

This song makes me happy! I hope it makes you happy too!

Uptown Funk

Bruno Mars makes me HAPPY! Mark Ronson’s latest song, Uptown Funk, features him. There’s a special little person who I do a lot of dancing with when this song comes on the radio. We both just LOVE IT! Happy Monday.

Feels Like Fall

Jennifer Michie Dawn

It felt Fall-ish this weekend. It was cool and rainy on Saturday, sunny and chilly yesterday. Today I left the house to a dark and windy morning, which slowly budded into the most gorgeous sunrise, the sky was filled with pink and gold and a deep purple, the trees and houses I passed, black silhouettes against the rising dawn. All this beauty had vanished behind clouds and a rain filled sky by the time I got off the tube.

It feels like Fall has arrived to England. Blustery, rainy weather and the crunch of leaves underfoot. I just wanted to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea this afternoon. It feels like sweater weather!

Below is a small Autumn Playlist that I made, these songs make me think of hot apple cider, pumpkins, sweaters, the leaves changing, the evenings closing in sooner, the train racing past fields filled with birds following the Harvester, rainy afternoons and crispy mornings, to name but a few things.

Chilly Gonzales

I have known of Chilly Gonzales for awhile now. I enjoy his work. Somehow, I missed the Solo Piano II album. As I was catching up with a few things I had earmarked to Instapaper, I read an article I had saved from the Fox is Black about this album in particular, being Bobby Solomon’s go-to album for working to. This song, is stunningly beautiful and haunting. It fit the chill of the morning air as I walked to the train station. A little Chilly for a chilly day. What a terrible pun, I know, but I just couldn’t resist! Happy Monday.

Fancy

I love Iggy Azalea’s song entitled, Fancy. Even better the video is an adorable homage to Clueless:

The great Jimmy Fallon, impersonating Neil Young, sang it a few weeks ago and I liked his spin on it:

Happy Thursday!

My Summer Playlist

Beach Fashion 1956

I grew up in a household where all genres of music were played. In our house we do the same thing. Even though we listen to everything, I seem to go through phases of listening to one genre or album more than another.

At the moment, I have been going through a bit of a 70s phase. A mellow 70s phase. I don’t care if it is considered “cheesey” or “corny” kinda music, I’m enjoying grooving to my tunes. I’m just missing the truly long hair, a nice big pair of sunglasses and some bell-bottoms. It has sorta become my soundtrack of the Summer. I thought I would share a bit of what I’m listening to with you.

After The Rain

Jennifer Michie Sunshine

As a line from Night Moves, my favorite Bob Seger song states:

“I awoke last night to the sound of thunder, how far off I sat and wondered?”

We had one H-E-double hockey stick of a storm last night. Mr. Michie and I moved in closer to each other, it is very rare that a storm makes me nervous, but the lightening last night was unreal. It flashed and lit up our room like we had turned the lights on. Our room was so bright I could have read my book. It didn’t stop, there wasn’t that moment in between, it was like someone was turning the lights off and on really quickly.

The rain lashed against the windows, our window was cracked to help ward off the stifling air in the house from the heat and the curtain blew, while rain splashed on to the windowsill and the thunder rolled.

This morning the air was cool, there was a soft mist swirling around the train tracks and the sun was shining bright. The air was clean. Everything felt fresh. Today is going to be another hot day,  now I’m from the South, so I’m used to heat, but it even gets me down at times when it is blazing and their is no air-conditioning, it feels as if you can’t get cool, no matter what you do. I told Mr. Michie we might just start eating banana splits for dinner as it is too hot to cook.

I’m so happy that it’s Friday today, I have a few things planned this weekend and I want to get caught up on my laundry, but I plan to just enjoy being. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, wherever you may be.
