Our Christmas Cottage

We finished decorating the cottage today, just in time for the first day of Advent. Our wreath is  out and our purple candle lit. We usually don’t decorate this early, I would normally start getting things out by the second week of December, but with all the craziness of school at the moment, I knew if we didn’t do it now, we wouldn’t have the chance to do it.

Mr. Michie said I was like a Christmas Fairy, sprinkling the house with Christmas here and there. I will admit, every room has a bit of Christmas in it, it just has too! I thought I would share a couple of photos we took, while we were decorating.

I hope that you are enjoying today, wherever you may be and that peace is with you as we move into the season of Christmas.

A Thanksgiving Sunday

The candles are lit, an old Christmas movie is on at the moment, we are going to dig out Home for the Holidays later (a must to watch!), a turkey is roasting in the oven, my stuffing is going in soon. We have a little spinach and artichoke dip to snack on this afternoon that I made last night and our pumpkin pie is ready. We are going to celebrate Thanksgiving today and enjoy every moment of it!

Happy 4th

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

I hope you are eating with family and friends, munching on burgers, or BBQ with your Mom’s macaroni salad and there is a lot of homemade ice cream being churned on the front porch for dessert!

Easter Time Rag

Goose Girl and I worked very hard this year getting the farm ready for our annual Easter Egg Hunt.

We hid eggs filled with candy surprises all over the farm with a giant gold foil wrapped bunny hidden in a very secret hiding place for one lucky person to find.

The winner of that prize was Molly Moo, she found it just where I had nestled it, in a tree hollow that was slightly covered by daffodils. If she hadn’t had stopped to munch on the daffodils she would not have seen the gold wrapper shimmering at her.

We had so much fun, a huge turnout, more than we expected! We almost ran out of the sugar cookies Goose Girl made. She cut them into chicks and bunny and egg shapes and decorated them with pastel colored icing and sprinkles, they were very festive!

She laid them out onto platters that rested on tables covered with gingham fabric and decorated with mason jars of spring flowers and giant pitchers of fresh lemonade. That way all the adventurous Easter egg hunters had something to snack on and quench their thirst with after they had worked so hard filling their Easter baskets.

I decided I would make a mini film about some of the Easter preparations that we got up to. This was my first attempt at making a film, it is a little rough here and there, but I am pretty proud of it! We hope you enjoy and have a wonderful Easter!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

One of my St. Patrick’s Day traditions, is to watch this movie! It doesn’t get better than this! Sean Connery singing, leprechauns, the Irish countryside, the banshee, the fiddle playing…Darby O’Gill and the Little People, is always worth a watch!

I wish you all a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day! And hope that good fortune comes your way today!

Goose Girl & Foxy have been busy today too, be sure to check on them:

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

gigi and foxy st pats 2012
Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers.
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours.
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day my friends! Goose Girl is busy in the kitchen making Irish Soda Bread. She is following her Nana’s recipe, but making a special loaf without raisins just for me!

The rain is falling softly while I work in the study, it is making everything look greener today, soon it will be time to plant flowers without the worry of frost.

Tonight I shall take Gigi out for dinner and a little dancing at a favorite Irish pub of ours. I have bought a new green bow tie just for the occasion.

I am off now to see how far Gigi hasn’t gotten, I just might be able to nip a bite off of a warm loaf of bread and curl up on my coach with a good book and a hot cup of tea. Ta ra!

Groundhog Day

Can we expect to being moving “in” to Spring today? Or 6 more weeks of Winter? The way it feels outside this morning, I think 6 more weeks of Winter, but we will just have to wait and see what Phil says!

UPDATE: Phil and I agreed! 6 more weeks of Winter! BRRR! I hope I get some snow before this is all over!

Keeping it Simple

We are keeping it simple as we make our way into this New Year. We went back to school today and I just wasn’t ready, I needed one more day to finally sit and just be. We were lucky enough to have my beautiful sister and her sweet husband visit us over Christmas and we just never stopped, we had so much fun, but now I am ready to just rest for a day or two.

We officially started our New Year’s resolution last night, inaugurating the event with two brand new mugs that I got in the Emma Bridgewater sale (my sweet sister bought me one, I got Mr. Michie the other: he has the running deer pattern and I have the holly one).

I know that the tea just tasted better out of that new mug, we talked and laughed and ate some chocolate and just “were” for an hour or so, it was a nice way to ease into today. It was as dark as night as we headed to work this morning, the sun didn’t rise till well after 8am. It was dark when we left tonight and bitterly cold, so the evening called for something homey.

We came home and I made a breakfast casserole dish that my sister makes, it was wonderful. The perfect way to use up leftovers, an easy and simple meal to make after a long day and it was comforting to boot.

I think we are just going to stay on this path of keeping it simple and quiet as we enter this new month in this new year.
