We’ve Made It!

Sleeping Pug

I’m pooped! It took us four days to get back home to London. Which in turn gave us an extra night with our family (a true blessing), a night snowed in at a Chicago hotel with movies and great pizza, and an all day wait at the airport, praying we would be lucky enough to get standby seats and not have to return to a hotel. Our prayers were answered and we touched down at 5:22am. It is always bittersweet to come home. I love London, but I miss the people that I leave behind.

We got home, showered, did a few odds and ends and then spent the day running errands, trying to get caught up for the beginning of the working week. And what a week it has been; long days, where I could have almost fallen asleep standing up accompanied by a lot of long nights as there has just been so much going on. I’ve hardly been able to catch my breath.

So, to say that I am elated that it is FRIDAY, is an understatement! There is still so much to get caught up with this weekend, but one thing’s for sure, I am definitely going to try and catch up on a little sleep.

The weekend is HERE! Long may it last!

Little Angelo’s Pizza

Jennifer Michie Pizza 1

Now, everyone has their pizza joint. I have a few of my own, one of my absolute favorites is a little place in Clemson, S.C. called Peppino’s. It is a fantastic joint for a good slice of pie and a cold pitcher of beer.

Peppino’s makes a New York style pizza, which is vastly different from the deep dish Chicago style pizza. However, I think they both have their own merits. And as they say, “when in Rome..” or in our case, “when in Chicago…” you do as the locals do.

Little Angelo’s restaurant in Rosemont was recommended to us by a staff member at the hotel and boy were we happy that he did that! This was one of the best pizza’s I/we have ever eaten. We went traditional, got a deep dish with half cheese and half sausage (they make their own)! It was HEAVENLY! Mr. Michie was very, very happy as he is actually “Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago!” (Only a true Ferris Bueller fan will know what I’m talking about here, but seriously, I think he could eat sausage every day!)

Look at the size of that pizza! And that was just a small!

Now, I am sure that there are many Chicagoans who will agree with me and many who will be screaming because there is a better pie in their neighbourhood, but let me tell you this was fantastic!

It was worth getting snowed in, just for a slice of this pizza! It’s the simple things in life, that is what you have to find the joys in.

Happy Epiphany

Happy Epiphany to you all. Our “Little Christmas” gift this year was that we survived Winter Storm Ion. We made it home to London, it only took us 4 days to do it!

But, we looked at our situation as a mini adventure. We stayed in a nice hotel in the Rosemont district of Chicago, ordered delicious deep dish pizza after midnight as we hadn’t eaten since lunch. I had the joy of getting a migraine earlier in the day and finally had to grace the airport bathroom with my presence by getting sick, so I was more than ready to eat a little something. We hung out, watched some TV, watched the snow from our window. We were together, so we were happy.

So, that is why my space has been radio silent the past few days. But, I have so much to share with you and a few pictures too. Not as many as usual as I was so caught up having FUN, I didn’t take as many as I would have liked!

I hope that your New Year has started out quietly and merrily and that you have been able to ease into this first month with a calmness and a peace about your spirit.
