Playing House

Playing House

I think we have another Bunheads situation on our hands here folks. Over the summer we watched Playing House and we tumbled down the rabbit hole and fell in love. Then we proceeded to tie our family down to chairs and made them watch it as well. They loved it too! We are still throwing lines out to each other. It is funny, charming, relatable, intelligent and it has heart. These women could be your friends. I want to go to lunch with them at Rosie’s and drive down main street singing to Kenny Loggins.

So why is it taking USA Network so long to make a decision to renew it or not?  The people are a collective chorus screaming out for more. With a host of new shows starting this season, this is a show that is worth keeping. It has a good foundation and space to grow. Just like Bunheads, a show where the critics, for once, were begging for its renewal, it looks like Playing House could also fall into the wasteland of TV shows that didn’t make it. I’ve read article after article with critics crying out for it’s return. Please renew this show, USA, I beg you on bended knee; I’ve not yet had my fill of spaghets!

A Ballet Kinda Week

Well, this must have been my ballet week. I got to see Sleeping Beauty on Tuesday and last night we watched the very last episode of Bunheads.

Oh Bunheads, you have made me laugh, cry, smile, contemplate…I hope that you are coming back for another season, because I need you! The cast is just outstanding. My parent’s had the opportunity to see Sutton Foster when she was on Broadway performing in Thoroughly Modern Millie and they enjoyed every moment of it.

And, to have “The Great” Kelly Bishop, I mean come on! Film mom of Baby, “Nobody puts Baby in the corner!” These wonderfully talented women, who can sing, who can dance, who can act, it is just stellar! This show is funny, sweet, intelligent, if you are listening TV Gods I would like you to keep this show running, because TV is a better place with it!

Our Day

Yesterday we finished our major overhaul of the room we chose to attack during 1/2 term. There are still a few more things to sort though, and to be put back in their rightful place, but it feels so wonderful to be rid of anything we don’t need.

We recycled, donated, organized, made two bags of items to take to school that will live in the cupboard as still life objects, dusted, vacuumed, mopped and sat for a five minute break to catch our breaths.

We decided to have a big lunch yesterday since Mr. Michie had an online meeting last night. I made a fresh spinach and artichoke dip, with a couple of pieces of crusty bread and carrot and red pepper sticks to dip into it. It was wonderful.

We cheated and watched something while we ate, an episode of “Bunheads”. I will be sad when this show finishes for the season!

For dessert I had a chocolate chip cookie and it was actually smiling at me.

It reminded me of one of my all-time favorite “Bewitched” episodes, when Tabitha turns herself into an oatmeal raisin cookie and then smiles at her mom, with the raisins forming the smile, too cute! (It starts about 5 minutes in)

It must have been the day for things looking like other things to me, because I had a handful of popcorn last night and this piece looked like a little alien creature waving at me, I thought it looked cute and couldn’t eat it, but Mr. Michie grabbed it and ate it instead.

Bunheads

Okay, I am going to whisper a name to you on the wind, quietly breathed out through my lips. A name that should be revered; the name is: Amy Sherman-Palladino. Do you hear it? Whispering through the winds, rustling through the trees, the name of the woman who created The Gilmore Girls and the town of Stars Hollow. A town I am ready to pack my bags and move into, even if it is on a backlot and a soundstage.

The Gilmore Girls, sadly are not back, but Amy Sherman-Palladino is, and she has brought us: Bunheads. This is a show that I have a read a few things on, but one month has quickly tumbled into another and we have not had the pleasure to watch the first few episodes until late yesterday afternoon. We curled up on the couch, underneath our cozy quilt and hit “play”.

It centers around a former ballerina, turned Vegas showgirl, who marries an admirer and ends up back in his sleepy hometown of Paradise. Unfortunately within the first 48 hours of their marriage, her husband, is killed in an accident and she is left “alone” in a new town with her mother-in-law, who runs the local ballet studio.

Well, 3 episodes in, we are loving it, it isn’t The Gilmore Girls, but nothing will ever be, I am taking this show for what it is and enjoying it. I am eager to see where it goes. The lead characters mother-in-law is played by non other than Lorelai Gilmore’s mother, the lovely Kelly Bishop. I am so glad to see her gracing my screen once again.

The show started with the glitz and feathers of Vegas and took off running to the sleepy town of Paradise and we are running right along with it, ballerina slippers and tutus in hand.
