Paring Down

I’ve been doing some major “Spring Cleaning” in the cottage, with still more do. We are normally very good about recycling, reusing and donating things to the charity shop, but this year we have truly taken a more minimalistic approach to heart and are trying to get rid of the things we don’t really need. Paring down in order to be better organised and our home a more relaxing environment in that it will be a little more devoid of clutter, but still cozy.

I am also taking this idea into my blog. I have a few things I have been working on behind the scenes with a lot of help at times of Mr. Michie, if I couldn’t quite get a css code right. I am going to be paring down, streamlining and doing a little de-cluttering.

Stick with me, there are some BIG changes to come and I will be telling you more as I get closer to unveiling my plans.

Well, a funny thing happened yesterday. Being the nerd that I am, I occasionally look to see where I am getting web traffic from. I find it amazing that someone in China, is reading my blog, or in Peru or even in a little town in Colorado, or Indiana, or Virginia! In all its vastness the world is truly a small place.

I noticed that I got a lot of hits from CharHadas. So, I clicked on it. The link took me to a post that they had written about little old me and a Halloween post I wrote last year.

Now, I must pause here to say that the image, was never mine to begin with, as I had found it on Love, Luck, Kisses & Cake. However, I was just absolutely tickled pink to see myself featured on a popular Spanish site.

It has been a very long week, I feel that I have been at work since last Wednesday, as the few hours I was home Sunday after we got back from Madrid, don’t count before I had to go back to work Monday morning, seeing this just made me smile. It was pretty cool. So, thank you CharHadas for featuring me.

My original post is featured below and the link to the CharHadas article is HERE.

Halloween Round-Up

I have been doing a little Halloween reconnaissance today and came across some cute ideas, old and new that I thought I would share with you!

Glittering pumpkins are always beautiful, not just for Halloween, they can carry you through the fall season and adorn your Thanksgiving table, I found these on the beautiful Livy’s blog:

This Candy Corn Mousse, is festively colorful and perfect for a grown-up Halloween get-together with its cheesecake base:

Leave it to Martha to come up with a cute idea for orange balloons! This is a nice thing for little people to have something to take home at the end of your Halloween party. You could even tie a little bag of candy to the bottom, so their pumpkin doesn’t float away:

I love making bark and this Halloween Candy Bark version looks hauntingly delicious:

Bring something home from the Three Broomsticks to your Halloween festivities and make a batch of Butterbeer for all your little witches and wizards:

Use different colored candy melts and your imagination to create spooky Halloween inspired chocolate dipped strawberries:

Hope you found a few bewitching ideas that take your fancy…

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

3 Years

Today, I celebrate 3 years of blogging. This space has changed a lot in 3 years and I shall continue to evolve it.

I am “growing-up” in this “blogging” world and I feel my blog should reflect that, reflect where I am right now. So little by little I will start to make a few changes here and there. So, stay tuned!

I want to thank you all for reading what I write, for your lovely comments and e-mails and for sticking with me! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I never imagined that when I started this 3 years ago, as a creative outlet just for me, that I would meet such kind, generous people! Thank You!

Here’s to another 3 years!

A few of my favorite posts, just a handful of them, written over this past year:

Under the Weather

Please forgive my absence as I have been a bit under the weather the past few days. I am on the mend and will be back to my normal posting shortly! I have so much to share from our weekend adventures….

Hanging Out

I hope that you all had a lovely Easter? We did, although it didn’t feel much like an Easter Sunday in the South, as we were cold and rainy in our neck of the woods!

I am going to take a break here for a little bit and enjoy the rest of my Easter Holiday with Mr. Michie.

While, I am out and about hanging out with him, Goose Girl & Foxy have kindly agreed to take over for me and they will be posting in my absence.

Have a wonderful, wonderful week and I will see y’all in a few days….

What A Weekend!

Oh what a weekend this has been! Mr. Michie took me to see “The Muppets”! I loved it, I have always loved them, I wasn’t sure how much of the original Muppet music they would use and I couldn’t believe when they sang, “The Rainbow Connection”! That is my favorite Muppet song!

Now, I want to make these from Bakerella and have a party:

I got ready for our date, by putting on a layer of “rainbow connection” glittery nail polish over my red nails that Mr. Michie treated me to getting done for Valentine’s Day. The glittery nail polish was courtesy of my Mom and I love it, I feel like I should be going out to a party with it on, it is just so FUN!

We went out to dinner after “The Muppets” to finish our date night and then spent the rest of weekend, resting, cleaning, writing, cooking, baking and munching on Valentine’s candy. We also drank plenty of tea and hot chocolate out of our Valentine’s Day surprises.

Mr. Michie took me to Emma Bridgewater and I bought him the “Red Fox” mug and he got me the “Pink Hearts” mug. My hot chocolate just tastes better out of it! Of course there are lots of snowmen shaped marshmallows skating on the top of my hot chocolate, again another surprise in my Valentine Care Package from my parents! HEAVEN!

I am teaching a 2 hour evening Photography Class at the moment on Pinhole Photography and dark room techniques. I am loving it! And my feedback from the 20 students who have signed up, is that they are LOVING it too! So, I am very pleased.

I got a head start for my next class and made just over 2 dozen chocolate cupcakes for them to munch on during our break, I will make my Nana’s chocolate coffee icing to frost them with when I get in from school, so they will be ready to go.

I was missing home and had a real hankering for Southern Cooking, so Sunday dinner was iced tea, fried chicken, rice and gravy, green beans, creamed corn and dinner rolls. I even made banana pudding for dessert. While dinner was cooking I did a little “pinning”:

and caught up with some e-mails. I have a few to reply to, you know who you are! I also caught up with my Google Reader and I wished that I was on this starry walk with the lovely Susan Branch, doesn’t it look romantic!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful weekend too!

Groundhog Day

Yesterday was just like Groundhog Day the movie. For those of you who haven’t seen it, Bill Murray stars as a news reporter sent to cover the events of Groundhog Day and watch with everyone else if the groundhog sees his shadow or not. Through a series of events he keeps living the same day over and over and over again as he is given the chance to figure out what he really wants and make that day and his life “right”.

With all the problems blogger has had over the past 48 hours, it has felt like Groundhog Day. I have had things that I have read in Google Reader that I looked at on Wednesday, that suddenly disappeared, only to show up again late last night, in twos or threes.  I seem to be seeing the same things over and over again. I myself, have had posts disappear and then reappear, but the comments have vanished and for that I am sorry.

The lovely Miss Holly left a comment on my Thursday post, which suddenly reappeared again, but will not let me repost her comment. All of you are always so kind to write to me, so I am posting her comment here:

Yea! I love #11!!!! I love being nice to people…..it gives me great pleasure…
Thank you as always for your comments. Since, I am not sure that this will even work today, I will not write more, I am going out to enjoy the sunshine with Mr. Michie and run a few errands!
I hope all of you have a lovely weekend! Jennifer
