A Halloween Ride

After a Saturday night bubble bath and new Halloween PJs were put on, we took a night time ride through the neighbourhood to see all the Halloween lights. A pumpkin stack glow stick was definitely in order for the occassion. There were lots of “Ooohs” and “Aaaahs” as well.

Sunday morning brought with it a cool morning so we made a batch of pumpkin pecan spice muffins and dusted them with “snow”.

This morning we woke up to a touch of frost, but the sun is shining and it feels like Fall.

Pumpkin Weather

It feels like pumpkin weather. The mornings are cool and damp. There is a crispness to the air. I’ve been quiet here as of late, because I’m home staying with my sister and helping with the new baby. So I’ve been lost in the world of pumpkins and baby toes and baby smiles and that delicious new baby smell. Happiness is…

This morning after the school run we grabbed some breakfast and now a fresh loaf of bread is rising on the stove. We’re cozied up with cups of tea and all taking turns holding this little bundle of love.

Have a lovely weekend wherever you may be and know if you’re in the throws of Hurricane Matthew like we are, you are in my thoughts. xo

Welcome October

Today felt like an Autumn day. The morning was cool and slightly misty. The day warmed up, but in the shade it remained cool. We’re moving into an Indian Summer.

We spent the first day of October visiting a pumpkin patch and a park. Tonight we grilled out cheeseburgers. Savouring those last few bites of summer. Pumpkins and fall leaves are appearing on porches all around. Trick-or-Treating is just around the corner.

Snacks & Library Books

After a morning trip to the library we returned with a stack of books to read. I love the sound that the plastic book cover makes as you open the book and begin to turn the pages.

We sat down together. A nest of curly hair rested just under my chin and soft little hands pointed out the objects as we read a Halloween I Spy Book and feasted on pumpkin sugar cookies as an afternoon treat.

The sunshine was streaming in the windows. One of the dogs was laying on my feet and all was well with the world.

Kindness

With all that is going on in the world lately and with all the memories that the past holds, kindness is an important value to hold on to. We must continue to be kind to one another. We’re all in this together!

I have a long list of favourite writers and I think that the wonderful Roald Dahl said it best:

Off the Grid

This is Colossal Off the Grid

I’ve been catching up on a few things since our return from Denmark (photos coming soon, I promise!). One thing on my “To-Do” list was to go through the things I saved in my Instapaper account. As I slowly started combing through the articles I had put in there for rainy day reading, I re-discovered this one on Colossal.

A Canadian couple have spent the past 24 years building their own floating island. Today they are currently moored off the coast of Vancouver. I was completely fascinated by this idea. I would love to follow them through the seasons and see how their life changes when the snow begins to fall.

Countryside Stroll

We took a long walk through the countryside yesterday. Rambling along the paths. We strolled by a stream, through the church yard where an 800 year old church still stands (with medieval paintings still on the walls) and headed to the deli for lunch.

We sat by the duck pond for a bit after lunch and then decided to continue down the lanes, where we saw fields of grazing sheep and cattle. After following the trail through one particular paddock, we were greeted by four gorgeous horses who all came to say hello. There was lots of petting by us and nuzzling by the horses.

The day was perfect, the sun was out, but there was a delicious breeze going. We ended up doing about a 10 mile stretch. It was bliss.

Just Being

Jennifer Michie Chicken Ramen

We went for a long walk today, cleaned the house, did laundry and ran errands. As a treat we decided to have dinner out. The evening was cool and a steaming bowl of chicken ramen soup seemed like a perfect idea.

I love the pace of summer. The chance to truly march to your own drum and do things on the fly. We’ve stayed up late the past few nights watching Stranger Things. I’m totally hooked! It makes me nostalgic for the 80s.

We love the main theme, there is a slight Tangerine Dream vibe going on there.

Hello August!

Seashells

Well August has arrived. This morning was cool and cloudy, but the sun is working hard on trying to peak out. We’re in the process of making a “Summer Bucket List”, I’m hoping to dip my toes in the ocean at least once. Here’s to Summer, long may it last!
