Chocolate Peanut Butter Heaven!

Our house takes on a different pace in the Summertime. The last day of school brings about a new found freedom, each year. We take the days as they come, dictating a slower pace. A pace that allows us to do whatever strikes our fancy.

Sprinkles Bakes is often a source of sugary inspiration and when I saw her post on Friday, I knew that this would be on the menu sometime soon.  I love peanut butter and surprisingly, so does Mr. Michie. The majority of British people I know wouldn’t touch a jar of peanut butter with a ten foot pole. But, Mr. Michie loves it! He even eats peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!

After a long day at work on Monday (we each went in to clean and reorganize our spaces), we came home famished and ready for something delicious. Mr. Michie made a quick Beef Stroganof for dinner while I whipped up this:

I didn’t think we could be patient enough to wait the 3 hours for it to set up, but we made it, just! It was heavenly! I made a few changes, in that I was out of cocoa powder, so when I added the roasted peanuts on top, I also added a few chocolate chips. It taste like a Reece’s Cup on crack. If you like peanut butter this is a recipe for you! Pure bliss!

Sugar & Meringue

I missed it! I have been so busy with School these past few weeks, somehow in my GoogleReader, I missed this post from Sugar & Meringue! Her annual “National Sugar Cookie Day” publication. Last year’s was adorably presented, as was this year’s.

It is full of sweet recipes, how-to images and ideas. She has also posted an adorable tutorial on how to make “granny-square” decorated cookies. And, since making granny-squares for a blanket is on my to-do list this Summer, I am smitten with this idea. Enjoy!

Sprinkles Bakes

If you don’t read Sprinkles Bakes, then you should! It is simply a blog of food happiness! Just going through Heather’s site, makes my mouth water and I am always excited to see her name come up in my GoogleReader, because that means there will be a delicious post waiting for me to read!

This video makes me smile and this cake is just pinky-pinky gorgeous. After the day I have had, I could use a giant slice of this heavenly pink confection right now!

I especially love her baking assistants!

Is there any S’More?

I love S’Mores. They hold within those cookie walls the best of Sumertime nights. The freedom of being little, running through the grass barefoot, eating grilled hot dogs, chasing lighting bugs and roasting s’mores over the open grill.

For those of you who are not familiar with a s’more, it is a toasted marshmallow that is laid upon a piece of chocolate and they are both sandwiched between two graham cracker cookies.  We didn’t always use graham crackers in my house though, my Mom would buy the Keebler chocolate covered cookies and we would mush our roasty toasty marshmallows in between those! HEAVEN!

Unfortunately, our little cottage does not have a space that allows us to grill, but that doesn’t stop Mr. Michie and myself. We simply spread our ingredients out on the coffee table and light a candle, which acts as our “grill”. So, you too can even make delicious s’mores indoors as well as out!

Here are a few S’more recipes or variations on the theme that I came across as I was blog reading this week, so they must be a hot topic! Click on the name to be taken to the recipe:

POPs

I love the “perfect bite”! Do you know what I mean? The perfect bite of sweetness and these pops look like the perfect bite.

Looks like Summertime happiness to me!

Sweet Paul

I always enjoy perusing Sweet Paul’s blog. There are a multitude of beautiful images to look at and the simplistic style of his blog gives it a classic distinction.

I don’t just visit his site to gaze at the alluring and interestingly taken photos, I also go there to read his magazine. The best part is, you can read it online, if you so chose, without having to purchase a physical copy.

His latest issue is a children’s edition, packed full of the wonderful sweet things I have come to love and expect from him and his team.

This apple green horse alone, makes me want to eat this pie, if only to have the chance to stare at him while I munch away.

While flipping through the current issue I came across these and maybe it was because I was craving something sweet at the time and they were decorated in brightly coloured sprinkles, or maybe it is because I find this photograph simplistically charming, but I thought I would share it with you: Chocolate Sprinkle Ice Cream Bites. Nothing fancy, but mouth-wateringly presented and the essence of the perfect bite!

When you have Lemons…

If life gives you lemons, make lemonade as the embroidery sampler in my Mom’s kitchen says! This has been a week, where I just haven’t stopped and I am not going to get the chance to either! I have had a lot of lemons this week and I am making as much lemonade as I can! I might need to set up a stall outside of my house to sell it all.

I have guest coming this weekend, a house that needs to be cleaned, a brunch to prepare for tomorrow and I need to get myself in the mood to entertain. Which normally is not my usual take on things. My parent’s are fabulous entertainers, they have created a home where you always feel “Welcome”, and they have given that gift to myself and my sister. But, this week has been so hectic and next will be as well with Art exams that I am not really in the mood for company. But, I know I will enjoy it when it is all happening.

I was flipping through my cookbooks, trying to find the perfect Spring time dessert for tomorrow and when nothing jumped out at me, I turned to a tried and trusted source: The Pioneer Woman’s Tasty Kitchen Blog. And, it was here that I immediately spotted what I wanted to make. A scrumptious Buttermilk Blueberry & Lemon Cake that looks like it holds the essence of Spring inside it. So, after everything else is done, this is going into the oven tonight, because I have a bowl full of lemons and you know what they say….

Snow Milk

Well, I promise this will be my last Christmas related post, although I don’t think snowmen are particularly related to Christmas, they exist with the snow and that, depending where you live could happen in any month!

I saw these on Bakerella’s blog and I thought they were just the cutest idea! Don’t you know if you came down to breakfast and saw him sitting at your place you would be delighted! I would be!

However, I would have to be unconventional with mine and have a brown snowman; I prefer chocolate milk with my doughnut holes! These are just so sweet, it would take me awhile to eat them, I don’t think I could bear to touch them and ruin their adorableness!

A Pot of Pie

I spied these lovely pumpkin pies in a jar over at Inchmark and I think they are a beautiful idea, for a little something different!

They would look charming displayed on a table set upon Johnson Bros. “Friendly Village Autumn” luncheon plates. I also think they would be the perfect breakfast, because, you have to keep your energy up as you slave away over that succulent roasted bird and stuffing!

All I need is a spoon and a little extra whipped cream…
