Fri-YAY!

We’re rolling into this weekend with open arms! I’m so happy the weekend is here. We have errands to run, a movie date, a hair cut and shoe shopping for new a pair of running shoes on the agenda. There are candles to be lit, music to be played and good food to be had! Starting tonight with a new pizza recipe we’re trying out. I have an excellent overnight rise in the fridge dough that is dreamy. It’s crunchy, chewy, yeasty; it’s perfect! But, I still haven’t found a quick dough that I really love. So maybe tonight, we’ll hit a home run with this one!

Let the weekend begin!

Hello Friday!

We’re in the midst of a mini heatwave in our neck of the woods. The sun is shining, even brighter I think, since all the weekend grocery shopping is done.

There is homemade butterscotch pudding cooling down in the fridge, nestled next to a fresh batch of whipped cream to be dolloped on top of it for dessert. There is chicken soaking in buttermilk to be oven fried for dinner later and served alongside a big salad with homemade ranch dressing and hot rolls smothered in cinnamon honey butter.

There are fresh sheets on the bed, the curtains are blowing in the breeze that is trickling over the windowsill, beach music is playing and the one day we have been waiting for since Monday has finally arrived!

Hello Friday! You look beautiful! Here’s to the weekend, long may it last!

Put on your lipstick, the weekend is HERE!

“Put on your lipstick Doris! The weekend is HERE!!”

The weather is changing, slowly but surely. We “spring” forward this weekend and I don’t know if I’m quite ready to lose an hour, but it is what it is. This weekend we have coffee to drink, music to listen to and our morning run to complete. I’m hoping the rain holds off, because the woods are turning into a marsh at present.

We also need to help the Easter Bunny out and do a bit of Easter candy shopping, as well as finish off planning a menu, run a few London errands and I’m getting a haircut.

Here’s to the weekend, long may it last!

Hello Friday!

Hello? Hello, Friday! It’s good to see you! We’ve been waiting for you since Monday.

I have been back from my little adventure for a week now. Spring looked as if it was truly “springing”, but Lady Winter is not ready to give up yet. We are supposed to have a weekend FULL of SNOW and that suits me just fine! I don’t mind once last hurrah of winter.

I’m hoping it means a blissfully long weekend with no school on Monday. With snow in the forecast, I’ve been busy this morning. We finished planning our weekly menu last night and I went grocery shopping after my morning run today.

Our fridge is well stocked. There is an array of vegetables on the counter, soon to be turned into refrigerator pickles. Butter is slowly softening on the stovetop and will be beaten into a St. Patrick’s Day decorated pound cake. The dryer is humming away, music is playing and I’m eating a slice of my Nana’s Irish Soda Bread. So, all is well in my world.

Here’s to the weekend, long may it last! xx

Sunday Morning

There is a different pace to Sunday mornings. We are usually up early and out the door, rain or shine. There is a different feel to Sundays. You know the weekend is wrapping up, there are things to prep for Monday, there are last minute chores to be done. It has a flow all its own.

This morning, we opted for a quiet Sunday morning. Mr. Michie made coffee; I made smashed avocado toast. We lit the candles, listened to music, worked on the crossword. The Sunday before going back to work after a school break, to me, is always filled with a tinge of sadness. For I am selfish with my time with him. I like moving to our own pace, I like not having rules to our days.

Tomorrow is back to work for him and a mini adventure for me. Here’s to Sunday, may we pack it full of life before the sun sets.

The Winter Olympics 2018

I am excited about two things today. First, it is FRIDAY!! I’ve been waiting for Friday to come around, since I went to bed on Sunday night. Secondly, today is the beginning of the Winter Olympics and I can’t wait to watch the opening ceremony tonight with Mr. Michie. I think it will most definitely involve a bowl of popcorn and a couple of hot chocolates.

I LOVE the Winter Olympics. If watching it doesn’t make you want to throw on your ice skates or shoot down a hill in skis, then nothing will. I have a couple of people I’m rooting for, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for them. I truly just want everyone to do well and no one to suffer any serious injuries or setbacks.

Bring in the torch, because I’m ready to watch them light the fire and get this wonderful show on the road!

Here’s to Friday

I’ve tried to come here half a dozen times this week, with no luck. I’m hoping we’ve turned the page on all of our January craziness. It’s rare that I wish away time, but here’s hoping February brings with it a chance to breath.

I know the British don’t celebrate Groundhog Day, but I still like to feel that what Phil has to say, applies to this little island as well. He saw his shadow this morning, so it’s six more weeks of winter. The weather report says that snow is a possibility for us next Friday. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’re right. I couldn’t think of a better way to go into a weekend than surrounded by a winter wonderland.

Here’s to the beginning of this weekend, long may it last!

Our Weekend Soundtrack

One of our favourite places to drink coffee in Copenhagen is at the tiny but oh so full of wonder Sort Kaffe og Vinyl. On their Instagram feed, they post among other things new releases. Right before the weekend they posted that the Texas band Khruangbin was back with a new album.  Now, I had somehow missed this band, Mr. Michie had not. He liked their first album, but that one, I have to say, doesn’t even hold a candle to this one.

We listened to it. We listened to it again and again and again. It has been the soundtrack to our weekend. There is so much there, so many influences. The more I listen, the more I catch a glimpse of something else. It is a beautiful album. It touches my soul.

Below, is I think one of the best songs off of the album:

Spring Cleaning

The weekend is here at last and I am so happy. The cottage has been topsy turvy with all the goings on of washing machine woes, burst pipes where our kitchen was briefly turned into a tropical paradise complete with a waterfall and a den that looks like a disaster zone because everything has been piled up in it from the kitchen.

But, we have a brand new washing machine, who has become my new best friend! The pipes have been fixed and the holes in the ceiling patched and painted. All of this has given us an opportunity to start our spring cleaning a bit early, which is a good thing. I moved our dresser yesterday and discovered that there wasn’t dust bunnies behind it, but dust elephants! Quite scary! I love deep cleaning and getting everything refreshed.

So, the house is coming back to itself and this weekend we will put everything right again. I picked up some milk yesterday evening on my way home and noticed that the grocery store had flats of pansies out front in all different glorious shades of yellow, orange and plum. So if the weather holds, I’m thinking that some sunshine yellow ones might just jump into my hands this weekend and we can cheer up a few spots in our little street garden.

Here’s to the weekend long may it last!
