To the Fair we go…

Foxy to the FairGoose Girl and I have had a bit of a hectic October and I have yet to have a chance to post anything. One thing that has been keeping us very busy is our pumpkin patch. We annually grow pumpkins, cultivating them to be monster sized gourds that we enter in to our local fair every year for the “Giant Pumpkin Contest”.

We have been keeping a close eye on our patch since the weather turned, protecting them when it got too cold at night, we didn’t want a frost to ruin our chances!

The big day was fast approaching and GiGi and I selected the pumpkin we would take with us and kept a very close eye on it as the flesh turned a delicious sunset orange.

On the day of the fair, she helped me tie carrying ropes to our pumpkin as I climbed onto our tractor and drove down our little country road to the fair.

We arrived just in time for the big weigh-in and we came in at a whopping 105lbs. We walked around after that, enjoying a few rides. I love the glimmer and sparkle of all the lights you see at the top of the ferris wheel. I got some pink cotton candy, which stuck to my whiskers and GiGi bought a colossal sized candy apple and a frozen lemonade. We slowly made our way back to the judging tent to see if all the gourds had been weighed in.

They had and there was a prodigious sized blue ribbon on our pumpkin! We won! In all of our worries to make sure we got the pumpkin to the fair safely we forgot to bring our camera. But, I can tell you we were jumping up and down and dancing, some friends took pictures of us with our pumpkin, so as soon as they send us the prints I will post them…

Happy Fourth of July

GiGi and Foxy 4th of July

We would like to wish you all a very Happy Fourth of July! GiGi and I shall be stuffing ourselves with amongst other things, grilled hot dogs, homemade macaroni salad, baked beans and a ton of other fixin’s. There might even be a seed spitting contest with the watermelons (only I will participate in that, GiGi is far too much of a lady to ever consider doing such a thing)!

I can’t wait for the sky to darken around us, so the fireworks can begin. We have the perfect spot picked out to nestle down on our old farmhouse quilt and watch the starry sky fill with the sparkling, dazzling, lights of the fireworks, as we happily eat the peach cobbler that GiGi made, alongside lashings of vanilla ice cream. I am licking my whiskers just thinking about it!

Cinco De Mayo Round-Up

Tomorrow is one of my favourite little holidays to celebrate: Cinco de Mayo. A wonderful excuse to just have a good time! I thought I would share with you a few ideas I have found to create a wonderful fiesta! So grab your biggest sombrero and your best fake moustaches and lets have some fun!

1)No fiesta would be complete without guacamole. This is one of my favourite recipes from The Pioneer Woman and I promise you, after you make this, you will never want to eat store bought guacamole ever ever again!

2)All soirées need a little blush of colour and these tissue paper flowers from 100 Layer Cake are the perfect adornment to any setting, outside or in!

3)It wouldn’t be fitting to have a Cinco de Mayo party if you didn’t have a piñata. Since you might not have room for a big rainbow coloured tissue paper clad miniature burros at your house, these piñatas from One Charming Party are the perfect size for everyone! Perfect for your guest as take home treat!

St. Patrick’s Day Freebie

I come from a long line of inventive and artistic women. My Mom was always designing little things for us; drawing pictures on our lunch bags or on our love notes, especially if there was a holiday around the corner!

It is something that I have inherited from her. I love to doodle, to draw, to make things beautiful! I decorate for every holiday, just like she does! So, it was no surprise to me, as I was looking for my St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun to put out that an idea popped into my head. I decided I would create a little something to put on my table.

I went through my collection of images, looking for one file in particular and when I spotted it, I knew just what I wanted to do with it. I would create place cards for my festively green St. Patty’s Day table.

I was so happy with how they turned out, I thought I would do something I’ve never done before: I would create a PDF file so that you can make them too!

I hope you enjoy making and using them as much as I have? If all goes well, a few more freebies might be springing up here and there.

A Lucky Brooch

St. Patrick’s Day, is this Thursday and I can’t wait! There is still plenty of time to make something for your lapel, so you too, will be “Wearin’ O’ the Green”, as they say.

I spotted these cute shamrock pins on Martha Stewart’s website and I thought they were very sweet. They have an air of vintageness about them. Something you could have seen your grandmother wearing on the side of her hat, or pinned to her smartest coat. The perfect thing to bring you luck any time of year!

*Watch this space, I am giving away my FIRST ever FREEBIE this week and it may or may not be St. Patty’s Day related! ♧

Year of the Rabbit

Happy Chinese New Year!

This is the year of the rabbit. I hope it hops into your lives followed by oodles of good luck!

In honor of the day we shall be feasting on delicious Chinese food in our house tonight! I can’t wait!

(This image was posted on In the Art Cupboard today, don’t you just love it! It is part of a beautiful paper collection of the Chinese zodiac that I found stashed in a box of items from a long ago school trip to China.)

Follow that Star

Today is one of my most favourite days! It is Epiphany, the day of “Little Christmas”, the last day of the 12 days of Christmas and most importantly the day the Wise Men arrived.

We were always given a little something to celebrate the day in my family.  One year, we received a big something: George Winston tickets to all go and see him as a family and what a night to remember that was! He walked onto the stage in blue jeans a plaid shirt and best of all: barefoot!

It has been such a crazy start up to the new school term that I do not have an Epiphany gift for Mr. Michie, so I think tonight on the way home, I will let him pick out a really yummy dessert with an I.O.U. for the weekend.

This last day of the season is one to treasure, and although your Christmas lights should come down after today, with all the rain and darkness here in England, I think mine will be staying up a little bit longer, because those twinkle lights just make me happy!
