A Festival of Trees

Jennifer Michie Trees 3

Yesterday, while picking up a few last minute surprises, we noticed that one of our favourite little churches was holding their annual Christmas tree festival. We went inside and the smell of fresh pine filling those cool stone walls was divine!

A number of local organisations and schools had all designed and decorated their own trees, it was homespun and very sweet. The Ladies Guild was running a mini cafe with all profits going to the church. It was filled with delicious two to three tiered layered cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, hot coffee and tea. The tables were decorated for Christmas as well with evergreen, holly and candles. It was simply a festival of happiness!

The second best part of our day was stopping by another favourite haunt on our way home. BBQ for dinner on a frosty night, when the beer is cold and the BBQ hot, nothing could be better!

Christmas Shopping in London

I spent the day by myself wandering in and out of my favourite London spots. I had a bit of Christmas shopping to do and my path took me from one end to the other. I passed the lego reindeer in Covent Garden:

The “Blush” entitled Paddington Bear designed by Nicole Kidman:

I went shopping at Fortnum & Masons, always a sumptuous feast for the eyes:

I stopped by Lina’s for some Italian Christmas pastries:

And I treated myself to an afternoon showing of “It’s A Wonderful Life” at the Prince Charles Cinema. Which is one of the greatest little movie houses in the world! It was bitterly cold outside, but I was snuggled up with popcorn and a coke watching an old black and white Christmas movie! It was a day of bliss!

The merry-go-round at the Leicester Square Christmas Market, where I waited for Mr. Michie to meet me for a dinner date:

I love when we get to have totally un-interupted time together. We even went past a Christmas Party Bus on our way home, too cute!

Gertie

Today is my first day off from school! I’ve spent my morning drinking tea, reading a cozy prairie Christmas story, cleaning and hanging out with Gertie! She’s pretty good company. Although she prefers hot chocolate and marshmallows instead of tea, but that’s pretty easy to fix, I’ve even topped her little mug with whipped cream and a few green sprinkles, much to her delight! Happiness is…

The First Sunday of Advent

Vintage Baubles

The house has been filled with the sounds of Christmas music today. The candles are lit, the pumpkin pie has been baked, fresh vanilla whipped cream is in the fridge and the turkey is in the oven along with carrots which are roasting in an orange juice and brown sugar glaze.

The mashed potatoes are being kept warm and the stuffing and other sides are in their final stages as well. We are celebrating Thanksgiving today. Work has kept us from celebrating it sooner as Mr. Michie had a late school night on Thursday and a school commitment yesterday as well. So today is our Thanksgiving with each other. We have had a quiet day, which is something that doesn’t happen often, I have loved it!

On this first Sunday of Advent we are celebrating love, family, a roof over our heads, food on our table and the blessings of the Season.
