School’s Out for Summer

WOOOO-HOOOO! School’s out for summer!!! Here’s to early morning runs with the sunrise and staying up late till the stars come out, watching movies on the vintage projection screen. Here’s to eating pimento cheese sandwiches and potato chips for lunch and drinking sweet tea. Here’s to lazing about listening to music and reading books and playing board games. Here’s to hot summer days and cool summer evenings, to waffle cones stuffed with homemade ice-cream, to picnics and candlelight filled nights. To cooking new recipes and making old favourites. Here’s to just being, to catching our breaths, to make-out sessions on the couch. Here’s to summer sewing projects and art exhibitions and long strolls in the park and visiting the fair and eating our weight in funnel cakes. Here’s to adventure! Here’s to the summer, long may it last!

Lumiere London 2016

Mr. Michie met me last night in town after work and we went on a walking adventure: Lumiere London. A selection of international artists lit up London and it was magical!

These are just a few of my shots. It was freezing outside, but the atmosphere was just incredible! They had shut down Regent’s Street so you could easily manoeuvre around, which was fantastic. Seeing Westminster Abbey lit up like that was amazing; it was surreal. I’ve had a few opportunities to work on projection projects like this, which made me appreciate what these artists have done even more. It was a really fun date night in London.

“M&M” Date Night #1

The Goonies Poster 1985

As I mentioned in my previous post, this weekend, we decided to try a new Date Night plan of action: “M&M Date Night”. The M&M equals “Movie and Menu”. We want to try and do this at least twice a month and simply put, we plan to create a menu around a movie.

We started off the first of many “M&M” date nights with a childhood favourite, a classic really: The Goonies. We decided to go with homemade pizza and ice cream since that is one of Chunk’s favourite things to eat! The party lights were on and candles were lit.

While I was busy making pizza dough (I used my go-to recipe from Annie’s Eats, although I have made a few tweaks of my own to it), Mr. Michie found a “Which Goonies Character Are You?” quiz and we took that. I got Mikey:

You Got Mikey

He got Sloth:

You Got Sloth

I’m not sure what that says about us? We went with Italian sausage, mushroom and feta as our pizza toppings. Although Mr. Michie was sans mushrooms and just ate a manly carnivore pizza. It totally hit the spot and for dessert, we made ice cream sundaes with caramel sauce, chopped pecans, marshmallow fluff, whipped cream and cherries all piled high. It was a really fun way to spend a date night and we plan to do many many more!

So, here’s to date night, long may it last! GOONIES, NEVER SAY DIE!!!!!

A Weeknight Date

Mr. Michie was at a conference today and he surprised me and picked me up after work to take me on a date! There are no pictures, we were having too much fun to snap a photograph of dinner or the sunset that greeted us. We chatted and walked and munched on french fries and vanilla cokes. It was just the two of us. I felt like a college girl again, when he would pick me up after work and whisk me away on a weeknight date. I savour these moments when the it feels like we are the only two people in the world, 14 years together and he still makes me feel that way! I’m lucky, more than that, I’m blessed and I know it!

The Year of the Horse

Chinese New Year 2013

Happy Chinese New Year! I quickly shot this last night in the rain as I walked down one of my favorite side streets in China Town.

There were dumpling carts everywhere, all the shops were filled with lanterns and items pertaining to the Year of the Horse.

With the rain steadily trickling down and the wind making the ruby red lanterns sway it was magical!

Spooky Fun

It was very brisk outside today. We ran errands and had a cup of coffee. I love when we are off together and can just be in each other’s company. I am so excited that tomorrow is Halloween! We are making chili with butternut squash and a batch of cornbread, we have a whole Halloween line-up of movies to watch and we are baking some Halloween cupcakes to share with our neighbours.

In the spirit of Halloween fun I thought I would share this. I think this has to be one of the funniest Saturday Night Live Holidays skits ever. Enjoy!

The Weekend

We got up bright and early on Saturday to make the most of the glorious day we had in front of us! Every art exhibition that I have wanted to see lately, we were never able to get tickets for. I love Roy Lichtenstein, I always have and Mr. Michie was not going to let this slip by without taking me.

So off we went to the Tate Modern and what a day it was! We loved the show. I still can’t believe that I got to see Whaam!, in person!!! And, one of my all time favorites, We Rose Up Slowly. It was beautiful, I stood in front of it for ages, just taking it all in. The colors, the scale, the beauty of it.

After the show we stood in the line buying a few postcards and Mr. Michie with his cheeky grin commented on how funny it was that Lichtenstein’s work made comment on mass production and the consumer’s need to buy into mass production and here we were buying massed produced postcards about work that was in part created to comment on mass production. That was his arty farty comment on the day! We still bought the postcards!

We had lunch at The Diner, I got a short stack of pancakes, that were deliciousi-oso! Mr. Michie got an order of chili cheese fries. We wandered into Liberty’s as there was some fabric I wanted to see in person. On the way out we walked through the jewellery department, and we spotted a stunning ring, but we clearly didn’t look like two people who could buy jewellery there as the two sales associates wouldn’t even speak to us. It is always amusing to be judged. Judged by someone who knows nothing about you and has already formed this opinion of you in their mind.

We left there, strolled into Convent Garden and ended up going to Wahaca for an early Cinco de Mayo feast and ate cactus tacos and chicken tinga and frijoles and spicy slaw, it was wonderful as always. It was the perfect day, out with my baby, just enjoying where the wind blew us.
