Are We There Yet?

Maybe it is because we had Monday off last week for the May Bank Holiday, thus making the week shorter? Or, maybe it is because Mr. Michie has been sick most of the weekend and we are a house running on little sleep? But, this morning as I washed my hair, I excitedly though, hooray! Only two more days to go and it is the weekend.

Once, I washed the suds out of my hair, I realized, that I was blinded by soap and sleep and it was actually only Tuesday and not Wednesday as I had believed 10 seconds before. How did that happen?

I was saddened by the thought that it was only Tuesday and in case your week is shaping up to be as long as mine, I thought I would share with you a few things that brightened my day, I hope they brighten yours:

Happy 82nd Birthday to Jasper Johns! One of my favorite artists and one of the best papers I ever wrote in college was about him.

This banana chocolate smoothie, found at Annie’s Eats, looks scrumptious:

This “beached” whale by the Argentinean sculptor Adrian Villar Rojas, he looks magical:

This image by the artist Chris Turnham, it reminded me of older Disney drawings, or something that had been created for “UP”:

Well, tomorrow it will be Wednesday and then we will only have 2 more days to go and then it is the weekend again.

My Mother’s Hands

I think that a person’s hands say a lot about them. Are they soft, rough, calloused, wrinkled, smooth? Are they small and fragile and young? Are they older and wisened by age?

My hand’s are my Mother’s hands. She is much smaller than I am, I always feel I tower over her, like Fiona Ogre from Shrek; but when we lay next to each other and place our hands palm to palm, they match. It always surprises me, I don’t know why, I am a part of her, after all.

Her hands have come together to work, pray, soothe, cradle, hug, hold, love, garden, read, cook, bake, clean, guide two little girls into womanhood and so much more. Her hands are always soft and tender and cool and when they are on me, all is right with the world.

Happy Mother’s Day!

This has been a roller coaster of a week and I take stock in this quote. What is meant to be, will be, all you can do is walk in faith.

Have a wonderful weekend! J. x

A Date

A few months ago, while walking through our local mall I noticed one of the stores was now covered in white plastic wrap and there was a big sign on it, stating that a Krispy Kreme would be coming soon to this location!

Well, it opened this past week and this weekend Mr. Michie took me on a date there. It was wonderful! The place has a retro vibe, the pink patterned wallpaper on the wall where we sat, was so adorably 1950’s.

They struck the right chord between old and new for me. In my hometown our Krispy Kreme looks exactly like it did when it first opened its doors in the 1950’s. It is where my friends and I would go, if we had been out late, it was where we picked up dozens of boxes of doughnuts to serve after church on Sunday, as my parents ran the “meet and greet” committee and it is where we always pulled in to when the “HOT” sign was on. Because, I don’t know if you are aware of this but it is against the law to drive by a Krispy Kreme store if the “HOT” sign is on (just kidding).

It is also where I took Mr. Michie to on a date when he came to stay with my family one Christmas, he had never been to a Krispy Kreme before and after one bite of a hot glazed doughnut melting into a pile of sugar on his tongue he was hooked.

So, it was only fitting we had a date at our local Krispy Kreme. MMM! We ate some and we took some home for breakfast. Nothing but happiness, sugar and happiness, that is what Krispy Kreme is!

3 Years

Today, I celebrate 3 years of blogging. This space has changed a lot in 3 years and I shall continue to evolve it.

I am “growing-up” in this “blogging” world and I feel my blog should reflect that, reflect where I am right now. So little by little I will start to make a few changes here and there. So, stay tuned!

I want to thank you all for reading what I write, for your lovely comments and e-mails and for sticking with me! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I never imagined that when I started this 3 years ago, as a creative outlet just for me, that I would meet such kind, generous people! Thank You!

Here’s to another 3 years!

A few of my favorite posts, just a handful of them, written over this past year:

P.S. Today is Cinco De Mayo and Mr. Michie and I will be celebrating with homemade mexican food tonight, but in the mean time to get me in the spirit, Gigi & Foxy shared a little pic with me of a party they are throwing on their farm! Enjoy! (click here)

3 Days

The next 3 days are all our own. So, here’s to tea drinking, picture taking, holding hands, taking long walks, movie watching, sleeping in, book reading, music, dancing, romancing, errand running, baking and just being. Have a lovely weekend!

The Sunshine Boys

Last night, I saw this:

and it was wonderful! To see Danny DeVito in person was everything I hoped it would be and more!

I was cheeky at the end and grabbed a couple of shots on my phone, just to show Mr. Michie, the set, as I had gone out with a friend.

Isn’t he just as cute as can be? (not the sharpest pictures, I know!)

What a wonderful way to celebrate the 1st of May!
