Harry Potter Fever

Harry Potter

We’ve caught the “Harry Potter Bug”. I loved reading the Harry Potter books. I remember when the last book came out, armed with a flask of hot chocolate and a blanket, I waited patiently for the bookstore to open its doors at midnight for the Harry Potter Party, where my pre-ordered book was waiting to jump into my hands.

Foxy, wasn’t so sure about Harry Potter at first, he felt that they might be a little too childish for him, but I convinced him to give them a go and sure enough he was hooked. We have seen all the movies as well and couldn’t wait to see the final one together.

We celebrated the opening of the new film on Friday night, by watching “The Deathly Hallows Part 1”, ordering a huge cheese pizza, popping a big bowl of popcorn and eating peanut M&Ms. So, when Saturday came we were more than ready to see the final installment of this wonderful series.

If we were going to see it, I was going in costume! I made a wand and a hat and Harry Potter glasses for Foxy and I to wear. We waited patiently in line to collect our tickets and then stuffed ourselves with hot dogs, popcorn and coke. We laughed, we cried, we held our breath even though we knew how it would end. There were moments when I was on the edge of my seat, Foxy just used his paw to gently push me back. It was a magical movie and a magical day out!

Tents

We have ONE week left to go of school and I am so ready for it to be over! This last term has felt as if it has gone on forever. It feels too long to still be in school, I am ready to enjoy a little bit of a Summer break.

Summer meant a lot of things and happy memories in my house growing up. One such memory in particular was the summertime rituals my sister and I always did. We played outside, creating bike “roads” out of chalk on our drive way. We went swimming, we went to the library and signed-up for the summertime reading list.

We ate ice-cream and fresh peaches from the farm. We played an endless game of monopoly that we made span the entire length of our Summer break and we built tents. We built huge tents with old blankets and sheets, sometimes encompassing a table and chair and part of a couch in our giant fortress.

We played underneath it, hung out, read, watched movies through our special “spy” hole aimed at the tv, we just had FUN. When I saw this tent tutorial, I just loved it. It brought back all of those little memories. This is a lot fancier than what we built, but I think just as magical.

What a fun summertime project for you and your little ones. I can just see it strung with fairy lights, filled with cozy blankets and pillows and the perfect place to lay down and read a book on a rainy day, falling asleep to the gentle pitter-patter of the rain, with the magical glow of the twinkling lights overhead.

Sprinkles Bakes

If you don’t read Sprinkles Bakes, then you should! It is simply a blog of food happiness! Just going through Heather’s site, makes my mouth water and I am always excited to see her name come up in my GoogleReader, because that means there will be a delicious post waiting for me to read!

This video makes me smile and this cake is just pinky-pinky gorgeous. After the day I have had, I could use a giant slice of this heavenly pink confection right now!

I especially love her baking assistants!

Ice-Cream Swirls

Foxy and Smarties Ice Cream

It has been hot off and on here this week. However, there were one or two rainy days that made the temperature drop exceedingly and all I wanted to do was watch Christmas movies and eat popcorn. There is that American tradition of “Christmas in July”, you know…

But, it has gotten warmer again and today my fur has truly heated up as I basked in the sunshine to take a nap. I knew the only way, I was going to cool off was to eat some ice-cream. Lucky for me, Jennifer was on her way to run some errands and kindly agreed to pick up a tub of something cool and ambrosial for me to delve into.

She came back with a tub of whipped vanilla ice-cream that was covered in Smarties. There is nothing better than ice-cream with a little candy on top. I just jumped right in, whiskers first and it was delicious!

I don’t even think I will eat dinner tonight, I just want more ice-cream. But, maybe this time with some chocolate syrup and sprinkles! Heaven!

What I Wore

It was a lovely sunny 4th of July weekend here! I put on my new Cath Kidston skirt and the sweet little moccasins he surprised me with and went out on a date with Mr. Michie.

(P.S. My skirt was ironed, but I started doing things around the house and got it crinkly before we left, so please excuse the crinkles)

Swings

What is it about the magic of a swing? I don’t care what age you are, those two ropes and a board, hold something very special to them. They conjure up memories of being a child, your hair streaming behind you like ribbons, the breeze hitting your face, your palms becoming sweaty from holding on so tight.

Races with each other to see who could go the highest, or who could jump off their swing at the perfect moment and land the farthest. Pumping your legs harder and harder so you were swinging so high, you knew that if you let go, you would sail into the tree tops.

There is a park near my house with a nice little playground and some evenings when we go on walks through the woods, we stop there on our way home and just swing for 5 minutes or so. I find that there is something very therapeutic in that! Just letting go.

This is a very interesting and wonderful project, so I thought I would share it with you:

Happy Fourth of July

Freedom is never Free. – Author Unknown

I wish all of you a safe and happy Fourth of July and I hope we all take a moment to remember all those who have stood before, who stand now and who will stand in the future for us to continue to have the freedom we are blessed with.

Happy Fourth of July

GiGi and Foxy 4th of July

We would like to wish you all a very Happy Fourth of July! GiGi and I shall be stuffing ourselves with amongst other things, grilled hot dogs, homemade macaroni salad, baked beans and a ton of other fixin’s. There might even be a seed spitting contest with the watermelons (only I will participate in that, GiGi is far too much of a lady to ever consider doing such a thing)!

I can’t wait for the sky to darken around us, so the fireworks can begin. We have the perfect spot picked out to nestle down on our old farmhouse quilt and watch the starry sky fill with the sparkling, dazzling, lights of the fireworks, as we happily eat the peach cobbler that GiGi made, alongside lashings of vanilla ice cream. I am licking my whiskers just thinking about it!
