Pumpkins

Jennifer Michie Pumpkins

It’s officially October, I saw my first pile of pumpkins today and it made me so very happy! That ribbed orb of flaming burnt orange and tinges of golden yellow, holds within it the very essence of autumn. Happiness is…

The First of the Month

Sweet Apple Cider Barn

We welcome in October today and I have to admit, I am more than ready for the weather to turn. It has been teasing us the past week or so, but I’m ready for apple cider nights, crunchy leaves underfoot, crispy air filling my lungs and fat orange pumpkins in all shapes and sizes.

A Walk

Jennifer Michie Regent's Park 1

We stayed in on Saturday, Mr. Michie was a bit under the weather. Which was just fine. I cleaned the house, he rested, we listened to music, made dinner, the house was calm and quiet. It was a lovely feeling compared to the hustle and bustle of the week.

Today we ran in to Marylebone as I needed to run a few errands and Mr. Michie came with me. The day was cool and sunny, it felt like Autumn. We took a short stroll through Regent’s Park to sit beside the miniature waterfall within the island part of the Japanese garden. Being there restores my soul. I feel as if I have stepped in to another world and it is all my own.

Slowly, the leaves are beginning to change, there were the hints of gold and red and orange around us. As we headed back out we walked by a ginormous sunflower that was starting to lean over as the starburst of a flower head was just to heavy.

We stopped by the Farmer’s Market before heading home. The air was filled with the scents of sausages being freshly cooked, sizzling away in a large cast iron skillet with onions slowly browning next to them and the heady scent of apples mixing with that to perfume the air in an intoxicating way.

We stopped by one stall selling a variety of vegetables and fresh eggs. He had the most beautiful duck egg blue fleshed heirloom pumpkins. One of them just jumped right in to my hands and came home with me. It was lovely to be out for a few hours, that is not something we normally do on a Sunday as work seems to take it over, but I was happy to reclaim back some time just for us.

Munchkins and Other Things

Jennifer Michie Munchkin

Mr. Michie bought me my first munchkin of the season this weekend. It looks so cheery tucked in around my Halloween and Fall decor.

It was a very wet weekend, so we stayed in and bundled up, drank copious amounts of tea and had all our little candles flickering away. I caught up on our mountain of laundry and worked on an art project for school. So my afternoon was spent listening to the Capital Cities album and cutting and pasting and sketching and doodling. And now, I can’t get this song out of my head:

Mr. Michie took me out to dinner on Saturday night, it was a great date! We braved the rain on Sunday to run to the grocery store, my green polka dot wellies kept my feet nice and dry! All in all, it was relaxing and everything a quiet weekend pottering around should be!

The Weekend

Faye Faires 1966 Itsbetterthanbad

Isn’t she cute? The pink suit, the adorable shoes, the HAIR! It is huge and I LOVE it! Her little “Hey, Y’all” wave.

The weekend is here and I am so excited. We are going to relax, run some errands, maybe go to the movies…

Last night we had a truly Fall dinner in the form of, pumpkin pancakes, the mix was made by Target’s, Archer Farms, it was delicious! On, a side note, I adore Archer Farm’s packaging as well and the mix was already in a pouch that onced open could be ziplocked! Target is always making my life easier! We had sausage on the side and I made a spiced cider recipe that Mr. Michie spotted on my Pinterest page.

Jennifer Michie Breakfast for Dinner

Those pumpkin pancakes, were mouth watering! I love having breakfast for dinner! My Fall food has continued as this morning I was able to get a pumpkin spice latte from Starbuck’s, the very sweet barista made me one, even though they don’t launch them until October 3rd. Happiness is…

This Friday is already shaping up to be wonderful:

  1. My Mom called me while I was getting ready for work, we got to talk for a few minutes, it has MADE MY DAY!
  2. When I walked outside this morning the sky was a gorgeous pearly pink, like the inside of a conch shell. The air was fresh and breezy.
  3. Even though I had to wait for a second tube to come through this morning, because everyone was packed like sardines in the first one, I got a seat! That almost never happens!
  4. I got my FIRST pumpkin spice latte of the season. WOO-HOO!
  5. It is pay day today!

Well, here’s to the weekend, long may it last!

Pumpkin Weather

Bersa Butik Pumpkin

Oh how we love pumpkin season.  You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right?  Winter, Spring, Summer, Pumpkin…. We anxiously anticipate it every year.  ~Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer, October 2010

This weekend brought with it cooler temperatures and the feeling that the cottage should be filled with pumpkins! I am ready to buy mums for my flower pots and dot pumpkins around the house. Soon, enough I suppose, I just have to be patient a little longer!

Munchkin

I’ve begun to put away fall, but I just love my little munchkins so, I am sad to part with them.

They are either going to become gifts to the forest or as my Mom cleverly suggested, I spray paint them white or gold and place them within my Christmas decor…

A Thanksgiving Sunday

The candles are lit, an old Christmas movie is on at the moment, we are going to dig out Home for the Holidays later (a must to watch!), a turkey is roasting in the oven, my stuffing is going in soon. We have a little spinach and artichoke dip to snack on this afternoon that I made last night and our pumpkin pie is ready. We are going to celebrate Thanksgiving today and enjoy every moment of it!
