HELLO, August

Hello, August! We’re ready to keep enjoying the lazy hazy days of summer. We’re ready to keep eating our weight in fruit and vegetables from the local farmer’s market. Gobbling up blueberries still warm from being picked on the way home.

We’re ready to keep enjoying time with family and friends that we have not had the pleasure of being with in many, many moons.

We’re ready to work on puzzles on the sunporch while the breeze drifts by. We’re ready for early morning swims and evening runs to get ice cream after dinner.

We’re ready to stay up late eating popcorn while we watch old movies. We’re ready to soak up all that you have to offer and we’re grateful for this time off from school and the chance to appreciate being within the moment and making every second count. We’re going to drink up each day until the last drop.

HELLO, July

Hello, July! We’re ready for all the fun you bring this month, starting with our “Fourth of July” celebrations and watching “JAWS” in the dark. We’re ready for our “Christmas in July” party to follow not long after the 4th, where Christmas gets a summer makeover.

We’re ready for the school year to come to a close and with that, the chance to visit with family that we have not seen in many, many moons. We’re ready for those lazy hazy days of summer that you will bring. Eating cherries while reading books, dipping our toes in the cool ocean water and feasting on homemade ice cream for dinner on hot summer nights.

We’re ready for pimento cheese sandwiches and salty potato chip dinners on the beach and marshmallows roasted to within an inch of their life before being smooshed between chocolate coated cookies for dessert.

We’re ready to keep grooving to the 70’s and 80’s music that has so far been the soundtrack of our summer. We’re ready for the few adventures we have planned before you come to a close. Welcome, July! We’re ready for all that you bring.

HELLO, June

HELLO, June. We’re ready for our table to be heaped with heirloom tomatoes and fresh corn on the cob. We’re ready for evening to crawl in a little later, while we eat ice cream and watch the waves roll in from the shore.

We’re ready for early morning beach strolls, hunting for shells amongst the rocks. We’re ready to stretch out on our bed, with the windows wide and read books with a bowl of popcorn between us.

We’re ready to make fresh shortcakes, heaped high with strawberries that are nestled in pillows of whipped vanilla cream. We’re ready to listen to more Carolina beach music and dance in the kitchen while dinner is cooking.

We’re ready for all that you bring this month as we move more fully into summer and the opportunities to drink it all in.

Nineteen

I saw an interesting video on “Meet Cutes NYC” earlier this month, “Mailroom Love 💌”, and the filmmaker asked the couple he was talking to, what’s the secret to 50 years together? And the woman’s (Alice) response was that “it’s much harder to like a person than to love a person”. And she LIKES her husband, Geoffrey.

That gave me pause. Love is a word so easily bandied around. And you can love someone to the depths of your soul, but that doesn’t mean you can be with them on a day to day basis. Liking someone is much harder. Continuing to get up every day and not only love but like the person you are with is sometimes a difficult challenge.

I like the person I am with. I like him in the valleys and I like him on the mountain and I like him as we traverse this space and I like him as we have continued to grow up together. All relationships are not smooth sailing, seasons come and go, storms blow in and out, but we continue to weather them together and I LIKE him and I LOVE him and I couldn’t ask for more than that.

So, here’s to 19 years of marriage with someone that I truly love and really LIKE and respect and value and who still makes me laugh and is the only person I want to be in the trenches with.

HELLO, May

Hello, May. We’re ready for you to continue to lengthen our days and bring us more of a taste of the summer yet to come. We’re ready for more adventures with friends, with weekends spent exploring and laughing together till our sides hurt.

We’re ready for opportunities to breakfast on the beach, hoping to spot a seal in between bites of breakfast sandwiches and crossword puzzling.

We’re ready for the three luxuriously long weekends you bring this month and the chance to soak those days up in each other’s company.

We’re ready for more fruits and vegetables to appear at our greengrocers as our table spreads to include more spring greens tossed in pasta, salads, risotto and everything in between.

We’re ready for all that you hold as we continue to appreciate the little things in each day and making the most of the season of spring.

Happy Easter Eve

As Clairee says, “Now, it’s almost time for the Easta’ Bunny! Run on down!”.

So, hurry up and get those eggs dyed and those baskets ready for his arrival. 🥕

HELLO, April

Hello, April. You’re picking up where March left off with a cool, blustery, rainy start. We’re ready for you to bring some sunshine our way, although I won’t complain about a snow day off from school, if you usher that in before you leave us.

We’re ready to watch the bulbs continue to sprout from the earth and burst forth in a sea of pinks, blues, yellows and whites. We’re ready for the Easter Bunny to pay us a visit and hopefully leave a few surprises in our Easter basket.

We’re ready for the Easter break from school and a chance to catch our breaths. We’re ready for the opportunity to breakfast on the beach and go for long strolls with no plan, just going with where our feet take us. We’re ready for our days to continue to lengthen as we move more fully into the season of spring.

We shall continue to find space in the quiet moments, to dance, to enjoy each other’s company and to find joy in the little things.

Welcome, April! We’re ready for all that you bring this month.
