"Call Me Maybe"

This song just makes me happy! You know what makes me even happier? I have some family in town today and I get to spend the whole day with them, wandering out and about in London!! What could be better?

Have a wonderful, wonderful weekend!

Bright Star

“I almost wish we were butterflies and liv’d but three summer days – three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain.”

Sunday Tea

The rain is coming and going today. The sunshine has come out to play for a little while, but the breeze in the air has kept everything quite cool in our little neck of the woods. So, I have been sitting on the couch, cross-legged with a quilt over my legs and a sweater on.

I have been working away on a small project. I am putting the final touches on an invite for a party that will be held for someone very special. I might give you a sneak peek soon, but I don’t want the surprise to be ruined for the party girl!

Mr. Michie made me a wonderful cup of tea to keep up my creative strength! Nothing better than a Sunday cup of tea with your honey next to you on the couch!

I think the tea tastes even better, because not only was it made by him, but it was served in a cup that I got when I was antiquing with my Mom in a store in Wexford, PA. What a little treasure trove that spot is! My Mom and I love finding places like that, hidden gems!

Coffee

I have never been someone who gets up and needs to have their morning cup of coffee. I enjoy coffee, but I am more of a tea drinker, just black and I don’t mind drinking it when it goes cold.

But, lately, I have become someone who really likes coffee in the morning. I love it more when I am at home at my parent’s or sister’s house, since you can get all kinds of delicious flavored creamers, but living here some sugar and milk will do, and occassionally I get a flavored syrup.

Mr. Michie is a coffee drinker. He takes his beans very seriously and likes his coffee just a certain way, almost down to a science. I love when he makes coffee, because there is something about the smell permeating the house and overwhelming your senses.

This has been a very long week at school, with a few late nights and our major Summer Art Show last night. Today was a day that I really needed coffee and unfortunately the lady working in our local coffee shop this morning was not the lady we needed to be there on her own.

She is extremely nice, helpful and always smiling, but she is also extremely slow and this morning when we walked in and saw the line 5 people deep, we knew there would be no way to get coffee and get the bus in time.

I walked out, slightly deflated, knowing that in order to survive this day, I would need a cup of coffee. I have survived the day, but only by sheer will-power.

I think tomorrow will have to be a coffee morning as I need to get it flowing back through my system. Nothing like a Saturday morning stroll with Mr. Michie to the coffee shop, if we get there in time they will just be pulling the baked goods out of the oven. Aah, heaven!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Father’s Day

“It is a wise child that knows its own father, and an unusual one that unreservedly approves of him.” ~ Mark Twain

I know my father, more than that I unreservedly approve of him. He is wise beyond his years, his thoughts are measured, his words are carefully chosen, he doesn’t speak to simply hear himself. He has led me and guided me, he has listened openly and faithfully and non-judgmentally as my own thoughts and ideas pour out.

He masterfully takes the wheat from the chaff, holding on to what is worth keeping, while wisely letting the others blow away. All of these things attest to his character as a man and a person and as the kind of person that I want to be.

But, more than that, he has a tender heart, he is kind and kindness is so ingrained in his being, that being around him, makes you want to be a better person. It makes you hold your head higher, to make this man as proud of you as he could be. I am lucky, my father is proud of me, he loves me, he tells me, he is not a man to keep those things to himself. I know it, I never have to question it.

As I get older, as I move into another realm of my life, I hope that I grow more and more into being this man. To gain his wisdom, his integrity, his patience and his unquestionable kindness. If I have gained even one ounce of it from him, it will be enough.

Happy Father’s Day Dad, I love you!

Daaaa-Da

“Daaaa-Da”, those two notes, live in history as the sound of an underwater villain fast approaching. In the historic words of Chief Martin Brody, “We’re gonna need a bigger boat!”

JAWS is a movie, I have long adored. It was always on TV in the Summer and for some reason, it would without fail come on the night before we would be heading to the beach and I would inevitably be drawn into watching it.

It is a classic of cinema, how can you pass it by when it is on? But, that would mean that by the time we got the beach, the thought of swimming in water past a depth of 3 feet, was not something I could do for the first few days.

I have never had the chance to see JAWS on the big screen. They have re-released it for the Summer and so Mr. Michie took me to see it last night for my birthday. We just had a good old fashioned Summer-time birthday party, just the two of us. We got a couple of cheeseburgers and a coke for dinner and then munched on popcorn in the theater.

Seeing it on the big screen was incredible, even though I knew what was coming, I still jumped. We had a few first timers in there as well and there was a scream here and there, it was funny. It was a fun way to start off the birthday weekend celebrations. Then we came home and feasted on french silk pie.

That is what I was using my lovely jar of fluff for. I made a few recipe changes, but it was absolutely delicious! I even had a piece of pie for breakfast this morning. It doesn’t get much better than that!

They Say its Your Birthday…

They say its your Birthday! Its My Birthday TOOOOO!

Today is my Birthday and I am so excited! Mr. Michie and I have made a French Silk Pie as my birthday cake of choice (that is what the gorgeous Fluff was used for, it was a new recipe I was trying out).

Tonight, Mr. Michie has an evening of FUN planned to start the Birthday Weekend off with a BANG!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Do You Know What This Is?

Do you know what this is? It is happiness in a jar! Fluff, is simply happiness in a jar, with adorable font, vintage graphics and a cherry red lid!

It is one of the main ingredients, in a little something I will be cooking up this week, so stay tuned…
