A Box of Rainbow Happiness

This made me smile when I took the photo. Just a box of pastels, in a rainbow of happy colours.

I am 163 days in to my 365 Day Project. So, please head over to In the Art Cupboard to see what I’ve been up to!

A few of my favourites so far, over the progression of the project…..

What Big Teeth You Have!

“What big teeth you have!”,exclaimed Red Riding Hood, to what she believed to be her ill Grandmother, lying in the bed, only to discover that it was in fact, a wolf! This seems to be the week of grandmothers turning into wolves, where all is not what it seems.

A week where everyone seems to be baring their teeth. I do not know if the “new” moon has made people crazy, or if the stars and planets are simply not aligned this week? Is there something in the water? Have people begun to drink the Kool-Aid? Has the long Winter finally made people just snap? Or does everyone have Spring Fever? This past week has been a week where almost everyone I have crossed paths with seems to be completely off kilter.

People have been snappy, or in an unusually odd mood that is out of character for them. I am so happy that it is the weekend. Hopefully, next week will bring with it a sense of calmness to everyone, because the franticness of this week was almost more than I could take.

This has been a week of being with “wild things”! As Maurice Sendak, wrote in one of my favorite books (Where the Wild Things Are):

“And the wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws.”

There has been a lot of roaring and gnashing this week. There is something in the air, others I have spoken with have noticed it as well. I am just hoping that all this windy weather we are getting at the moment, will blow it right back out of here, because I would like an easier, calmer and more peaceful week next week, then this one has been!

Peppersmith

Mr. Michie and I like to give each other little love gifts, nothing huge, just little surprises here and there to bring a smile to that person’s face. A little “hello”, a little “someone is thinking about you”, a little “someone appreciates you had a tough week”, a little “I Love You” kind of gifts.

I got a little gift like this placed in my hand a while ago. It was a box of Peppersmith Gum. I tell you, I was instantly smitten! I love packaging, that is after all what you see first and often, I am tempted simply by that factor alone. Yes, crazy as it sounds, I will buy something because I love the box that it is in.

When you purchase something for the design and asethics of the packaging, it does not always deliver. This, however, certainly did! Because inside this smartly clad box is some of the best gum, I have ever had the pleasure to chew away on. Not only, was Charlie Chaplin on our box, a little info was printed up on him as well, the little touches that make all the difference.

What excited me more than anything, is that I don’t have to save the wrapper, or dig through my purse to find a scrap piece of paper or receipt to spit my gum out in, they have already solved that problem by providing that answer with moustache decorated paper tucked into the lid of their box. It is ingenious, I tell you! Ingenious!

Mr. Michie found this for me at Whole Foods, if you can find it at a store near you, please run out and buy it, it not only in the cutest packaging, it is also delicious!

Painted Piggies

I got a pedicure yesterday after I left work, and I tell you, it is always such a treat! To just be, for that hour and have someone do something for you, is beyond wonderful. As usual these ladies performed miracles, I do yoga and am on my feet most of the day, so they are not always in the best of shape.

Mr. Michie and I did try something together last week over 1/2 term, in the desire to give our feet a break, we had our feet nibbled on by Doctor Fish. After the initial giggles from the tickling of their little mouths, it felt like champagne bubbles were all around my feet. They started a really wonderful thing, I was on my way to the smoothest feet I have had in a very long time and the ladies at the salon, finished it off last night, after they pulled out the electric sander and hacksaw!

I always pick a different colour when I go, normally I choose pinks and peaches for Spring and keep my bright reds and pinks and melons for Summer and the more dark reds for Fall/Winter, or I just go through a phase and only wear one particular colour for a little while. Yesterday, I went for a colour which I thought was going to be more of a ballerina tutu pink when it was on judging by the colour in the bottle, but as it turns out, it is a very simple pearlized colour.

And, I kinda like it. It is not my norm, far from it. I very rarely paint my fingernails, they are usually wrecked in one day, but my toes, on the other hand, I love to have painted. It just makes me feel pretty. So I normally pick a colour that I like, and will be visible on my little piggies when I look down at them.

Next time, I will pick something a little more peachy, I noticed the perfect colour sitting on their shelf while my feet were soaking, but I always think every colour I pick is perfect for that day, that mood… I suppose this simplistic yet elegant colour I chose, is a little of what I am attempting my weekend to be, simplistic, yet wonderful. After a full week back at school, I am taking this weekend easy.

I hope you get to do one thing just for YOU this weekend or coming week. We all forget and it is important to carve out time for ourselves, I am trying to be better at this, but it is not an easy habit to break, when you don’t normally do that, but little by little, I’ll get there.

Cramped for Space

Our little cottage is getting very cramped at the moment, we seem to be running out of space! We worked so hard cleaning and organizing while we were on 1/2 term, last week and the house looked so clean and cozy. You have to stay on top of things in this little house, or it will attack you!

But, this first week back at school has left it in a sorry state. There are piles of papers to grade, more things I have fished out to bring to the Art Cupboard, just waiting to be taken, projects I am working on…

It looks like my weekend is planned. Saturday morning, I am tying my hair up and getting to work, this little cottage needs to be put back in order!
